Volcano Roll good as usual. Messed up one of the orders, but didn't bother making a big deal with it.

Pretty busy for a small restaurant.

SLOWEST SERVICE EVER. OH MY GOD.

Ha long bay vietnamese restuarant - 8/10

jinxcrusader 12-19-2014 09:14 PM

Where is the go-to place for roti then?

L'Atlier @ MGM Grand Vegas

Had their tasting menu and it was pretty solid but definitely not the best meal I've had. Service was sub par. I know its Joel Roubechons more casual dining restaurant but the server forgot my wine and he did not say goodbye when he was off and intro the other server who took over for him. I was expecting a little better service, I was kind of choked about the wine and I didn't bother asking again for it so I just had water with my meal.

If this restaurant is a 1 Michelin star than I think Hawksworth definitely deserves at least one as well.

I recommend to get the special black pig ham as it was the highlight of my meal. Ironically it was the dish they didn't have to cook...

7.5/10

Francesco's in Vancouver. 0/5.

Worst dining experience of my life. 3 of the people at my table who ordered the same dish (pesto linguini) didn't even come close to finishing it. It was that bad. The manager (Francois) was pissy and rude all night. Unbelievably awful customer service. Deserved zero tip but I gave 10% anyway and he insulted me after and scoffed at the tip. He then tossed the receipt down on the table and walked away. No thank you, no good night.

This is a restaurant that can charge 100+ per head, and yet I can get better service at a McDonald's.

Say what you will but McDonald's doesn't generally have poor service.

I would argue that the cashiers there are better trained than a lot of independent restaurants.

Milk & Sugar Cafe

6.5/10. Extremely overrated, terrible lighting, very slow service - took 5 minutes to get my order in and 10 minutes to get bubble tea. It was alright though, but certainly not worth the wait.

I should've went next door to bubble world.

doolami ice cream 8/10
ice cream was really smooth but flavour wasn't fully there i had the blueberry lavender
they sold out of the pints. . . all they had was mango left -_- they should have a full stock of ice cream wudda

bcrdukes 12-23-2014 03:36 PM

It's really hard to extract the flavour of blueberry into an ice cream, assuming they use no artificial flavouring. Take into consideration that frozen blueberries versus fresh will play a pivotal role in the outcome. And lavender? Fuck. No bueno.

jinxcrusader 12-24-2014 08:21 AM

Went to this mexican taco place on Davie street last night. Forgot the name. It's right beside Stepho's/Megabite pizza.
Had their 4 taco special for ~$9 bucks. Had the Braised beef, beef tongue, shredded chicken and some chorizo one. Really tasty. There were some toddlers taking up a table, could tell it was a family-run restaurant. For that alone I would likely return. He also had some hibiscus drink - I've never had it before. He offered to give me a sample and poured a generous 1/3 cup. It was good but i'm more of a Horchata person. The owner said his hibiscus drink and Horchata was made in house.
4/5, had to -1 because the Horchata was not as good as Sal y Limon's Horchata on Kingsway.

Guu Garden on Nelson. 7/10.
Ordered a large tuna tataki, salmon oshi sushi and a MEGA Asahi beer. If you gave me two bowls of rice to go with the tuna tataki, I would of finished everything. Salmon oshi sushi was good, the black pepper? threw me off a bit. Overall, the food was pretty good. I thought I would be funny and order the mega Asahi beer and chugged the last third of it. :fuckyea:

Hawksworth was really disappointing, service wise. The server was such a miserable cunt. Honestly one of the worst servers I have ever had. With dickheads like him a place like that doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as michelin star.

Comme Ca at the Cosmopolitan in Vegas. 10/10

Gyu-Kaku on Nelson 8/10
Went there maybe 3 times last month. Good food and decent value. Service was good except for the one time where they were too busy.

Bambudda in Gastown

Awesome food. Awesome drinks. Awesome service. 10/10.

What we had:
- Individual bowls of ramen noodles

- Pork Belly - Taro, fermented red tofu, lime
- Black bean beef - Shishito pepper, Japanese leek
- Braised Leg of Duck - Savoy cabbage, oyster sauce, shitake
- Coconut Rice Pudding - Tapioca, pineapple, banana, shaved honeydew (this thing was fucking amazing)
- Almond and black sesame cookies

Drinks:
- Kung Fu Derby - Bourbon, grapefruit, chrysanthemum rock sugar
- Bamboozler - Gin, our everything cello, lemon, campari, whites
- The New Gwie Lo - Rye, lime, rosemary pineapple shrub, pineapple star anise chocolate bitters, dehydrated pineapple rock salt rim
- Old Fashioned x 2
- Old Pal

Unique?

Could mean a lot of things, but one could always try...

Something that the relatives can't get or experience MUCH in HK:

1- View = Salmon House.

The food sucked a while back, but it is better now.

2- Private rooms for 8 = Blue Water wine room (Atlantic room), Five Sails' glass room, Cioppino's (multiple "alcove" type rooms), Market

3- Hawksworth, window seating (facing the Gallery)

mako 01-03-2015 10:05 PM

Perhaps unique was a poor word choice.

Just along the lines of a place where you'd take some out of town guests or family.

Doesn't have to be fancy or anything in particular.

bcrdukes 01-03-2015 11:15 PM

PiDGin

Unique location and unique surroundings, no?

mako 01-04-2015 07:49 AM

how's the food there?

pinn3r 01-04-2015 11:30 AM

Sawasdee Thai on Main 7/10

Good service, and the Tom Yum soup was :sweetjesus:

Food was a little too salty, and portions are small for their price
