Doesnt matter who av will start, we're still going to win :)

winson604 11-28-2008 08:05 AM

Schneider won't start on Saturday. Luongo's out and Sanford is our #1 and it's his job to lose and he didn't lose it last night. He will get his start on the road trip at some point maybe Columbus or something. But I am quite curious to whether he will suck or not. He is tearing up the AHL but really in the end that doesn't mean shiet all. Jason Krog was the leading scorer in the AHL last year and he can't even make it on a NHL team. But we'll see I hope he's decent.

Regarding Burke going with the Leafs.

I think Burke is full of crap.

I can't believe NHL lets them get away with this sort of tampering.

:haha::haha::haha:

Oh god!

stuff99 11-28-2008 09:23 AM

I mean we all know it. I just wanted to get it out there.

Harvey Specter 11-28-2008 09:33 AM

I like Burke and I think he's a great GM but the man is a clown.

winson604 11-28-2008 09:34 AM

What can we saw he's a media whore. A while ago he randomly named Thanksgiving as a time that something might be done or hear or something I can;t recall. To no surprise yesterday (thanksgiving) we hear that it's basically a done deal but not signed. Also to no surprise it will probably be signed and confirmed on Saturday the biggest day of the week for hockey. All fucking planned out from the start.

SumAznGuy 11-28-2008 09:42 AM

Not to mention he was also under contract with the Ducks and was not allowed (legally) to talk to Toronto about the GM position.

winson604 11-28-2008 09:50 AM

werd. definitely shady dude. I do appreciate what he did for Vancouver though. Not in terms of winning anything because we didn't win shiet and barely won that 1 round vs St Louis but he did get Vancouver excited about hockey again and put our team back on the map cause were pretty fucking hurting for a while there.

I also don't see them starting Schneider in his first game in the NHL in a big divisional (away) game on national HNIC. Could destroy all the confidence he's built up in the AHL this year if he gets lit up

I'm not sure. AV is kinda random. Last time He played Luongo for the Rangers game and Sanford for the Wild. I'm not sure, maybe he wanted the captain vs ex captain rivalry against the Rangers. But it seems like AV doesn't really care about important divisional games vs non-divisional games. He just puts whoever he feels like.

Burke and Sundin should be together I think. Perfect match.

SumAznGuy 11-28-2008 05:38 PM

I was watching the NHL highlights and I love the Flyer's 3rd "retro" looking jersey's.
But then I threw up a little when I saw the Bruin's third jersey's. And same thing with the Senator's "Sens" third jersey last night.

mako 11-28-2008 05:43 PM

"Sens" jersey is terrible!

thats like us having a 3rd jersey with "Nucks" on it

Hondaracer 11-28-2008 06:36 PM

the nucks 3rd's are probably one of the better in the league

FLETCHER CONFIDENT BURKE IS THE RIGHT MAN FOR TORONTO

With Brian Burke set to be officially announced as new general manager of the Maple Leafs at a news conference on Saturday (streamed live on TSN.ca at 2pm et/11am pt), Cliff Fletcher's time in his current role with Toronto is drawing to a close. On Friday, the interim GM spoke to TSN's Darren Dreger on his AM640 Toronto radio show.

"My mandate when I was brought in last January was to be the custodian of the keys until such time as they brought the person in that they wanted to guide the team into the future. It was very well laid out in advance, I enjoyed it, I thought I would only be running the team as a manager for four to five months and it ended up being double that time," Fletcher told AM640. "I think the time is right for Brian to come in and I really feel confident that he is the person to get the job done."

When asked if there would be any relief in leaving his position, Fletcher admitted that there would be after the transition from himself to Burke had taken place.

"I'll feel good about the fact I was able to give a good six month head start for Brian coming in and he can move forward and run the team the way he runs them and move the Leafs up the ladder as quickly as possible," Fletcher told the radio station.

Fletcher was not put in an enviable position at the start of his second term as Toronto's GM. He was tasked with making major changes and had tough dealings with several of the veteran players.

"When you are in the position I was in here, it's not an easy position to be in, but you just go about doing the business as professionally as you can."

As for his role with the club going forward, Fletcher said it would be up to Burke.

"If he does decide that he'd like me to be part of it then that's fine, I'd love to remain part of it because I love the Leafs and I think there are going to be some exciting times ahead for everybody," said Fletcher.

When asked about what accomplishment he was most proud of over his most recent tour with the Leafs, Fletcher pointed to moves made away from the ice.

"I think we've put together a real good organization off the ice and brought in some real fine hockey people starting with the coaching staff," he told AM640. "I think the Leafs have a good core of people and a good group who like working together. I'm happy we were able to accomplish that part of it."

The subject of Mats Sundin came up and Fletcher explained that Burke would have to decide if the Maple Leafs would pursue their former captain. He did say would expect certain factors to impact the decision.

"It's now approaching the 30-game mark and a player of Mats age, how long does it take him to get in shape once he joins a team, maybe a month," wondered Fletcher. "Maybe the equation doesn't quite match out for the Maple Leafs now as it would have maybe at the start of the season, I don't know, but those are issues that Brian will have to address."

One player who finds himself in an awkward situation is forward Dominic Moore, whose brother Steve is currently suing Burke and the Vancouver Canucks as part of the Todd Bertuzzi affair two years ago. But Moore does not anticipate any problems.

"It's not really an issue for me. There are issues outside of here that need to be addressed at some point," said Moore. "Obviously I'll support my family because that's what families do but beyond that, I'm able to separate things and I have no problem with Brian at all."

Why would the Sabres have a bear on their jersey? You sure you're not thinking of the Bruins?

Lots of Jerseys these days are becoming very unoriginal. They just got letters on them.

CRX SiR 11-29-2008 10:03 AM

Off to Calgary to catch the game tonight, GO Canucks!

CRS 11-29-2008 10:25 AM

Burke the new president and GM for Leafs!

As expected.

AzNightmare 11-29-2008 11:49 AM

So what can we expect from Burke becoming Leafs GM?
Is he gonna turn them into cup winners within 3 years?
Is this what this big hype is about?

stuff99 11-29-2008 12:11 PM

You can expect him trying to get a bunch of media folks fired from their job in TO

I think he was referring to the fact that now that Burke has been hired, looking at old articles where he said "he has no plans to leave Anaheim", "hasn't talked to anyone in TO", etc seem pretty fishy.

Expresso 11-29-2008 12:38 PM

^^^ He said what he needed to say to secure the job in TO. Simple as that.

Looks like Schneider is going to get the start, I hope he brings it tonight!

fobulaus 11-29-2008 01:18 PM

yup, can't wait to see Schneider play his first NHL game, lets hope he doesn't disappoint
