trust me, wellwood will go buck wild soon... i was always thought he is afraid to end his penalty streak ..now that is over... he is gonna be another man on the ice.. i'll say he will man up and score a goal in OTTAWA |
wellwood is getting his chances, he's just not burying them and that save by kipper was amazing. he'll pick it up soon |

I don't get AVs problem...the shot was a knuckler and wellwood was falling down as well. Why doesn't he ever talk about his lover pyatt? I guess he is confident again that now we are winning that he he is all of a sudden the best coach again haha. Do I ever want his ass gone!! I mean... we won the game.. there's no need to call anyone out.... why not call Luongo out for letting in 3 goals |
i thought Luongo's glove save near the end was cool and yet cocky .. : ) |
Better yet. Both Wellwood and Sundin scores in TO. |

Just because he stumbled upon the combination of Kesler/Sundin/Demitra & Burrows/Sedin/Sedin, he thinks he is nothing short of genius. When in reality, when you juggle lines for 2 months in Dec/Jan, eventually you'll fall on your ass backwards onto something. But no, in his interpretation, it's genius  I'm even more convinced this guy doesn't know what he's doing and is riding the cottails of his teams to look like a successful coach. I mean, here's just a few of my observations. *** I mean, calling out Wellwood for getting robbed? The kid released the shot fast and high. I don't really see anything else he could have done. Was Daniel Sedin called out when Turco made that fantastic save despite having completely undressed Turco? Why didn't AV say, D. Sedin should have had the foresight to lift the puck after the deke. *** When AV was under scrutiny for the lack of offense during the Dec./Jan. months, he scapegoats Wellwood. Yet the majority of icetime is provided to the Sundin line and the Sedin line. Shouldn't they have the bigger responsibility for the lack of success in those months rather than the guy who plays 3rd string, gets left-over minutes, and 30 secs. in a PP? *** I still disagree with SOB calling out. Yes he wasn't fighting as much as he should but neither was Bieksa or Mitchell at the time. The guys entrusted with establishing physical presence on our own end. Yet these 2 escape the microscope despite the addition of Bieksa's poor defensive play and repeated daily turn overs, and to a lesser extent, Mitchell. Whatever. We're winning and I'm glad for the boys. But AV doesn't fool me and I don't think he fools the players either. I'm not convinced they've bought into AV's system. But I'm heavily convinced they've bought into each other as a team. As evidenced by the recent come from behind, never-give-up-on-your-team type of wins. |
canucks are awesome |
You guys are reading way too far into him calling out wellwood, IMO it was justified, sure he was absolutely robbed on that shot but for the past few games now he's been put in the position to score and hasn't been able to pull the trigger, he was brought in to score those goals and get those points and when it comes down to a tight 1-2 goal games he NEEDS to put those in the net Let's talk about the win rather then dwelling too much on this |

I agree. This is why Im confuse as to why he needs to call players out when they win the game.. Can't he just say "it was a great save by kipper" and leave it at that? Would he said the same thing if it was Pyatt? lol.. i'm sure he would say something like "it was a great shot . but don't worry, he's still got great set of eyes and will always be in the lineup" |

How can anyone claim he doesn't know what he's doing? The line juggling can be annoying at times, yes, but don't forget Vigneault is the winningest coach in Canucks history, .589 or something like that they were saying last night. Also a Jack Adams winner. I don't think he's interpreted himself as genius either, where would you get that idea? Calling out D. Sedin, your top goal scorer for not putting one in? He would have no right. Calling out Wellwood who has 36 points less and is there purely for offense? Absolutely. That's what Wellwood is getting paid to do; put the puck in the net. Daniel is doing that consistently, he misses one, not a big deal. And KW's shot was not as hard or high as they were in the first few weeks when he was our leading goal scorer. Thats why Vigneault said it was a weak shot, he's seen and expects more. Calling out Bieksa and Mitchell for not fighting compared to SOB? Remember it wasn't about fighting at all. It was more about being an enforcer rather than trying to be a skill D man. SOB was trying to be something he was not intended to be. Also something he was not being paid to do. Bieksa isn't running around and fighting as much because they don't want him in the box or injured. You can't compare SOB to Bieksa or Mitchell. Yes, they're all defencemen, but thats where the similarities end. What makes a great team is diversification. Players doing what they're there to do and not deviating from their specific role. When players like Wellwood aren't putting the puck in the net, which you know they can do, calling them out is a form of pressure to perform. When SOB is trying to be a skill player, call him out (not publicly, I might add - that was all on SOB it got to the media) to remind him what he's paid to do, be a big body presence / enforcer. |
^ So what is Pyatt's role in that case? Because he's not hitting, and he's not scoring. Maybe Aquallini personally requested him to stay in the lineup to keep the girls coming to GM Place. Maybe he can make some more money by selling Pyatt posters. AV's just playing favourtism and since day one, it's obvious he never liked Wellwood. That was a good save anyhow, and Luongo should of been called out for that softy. And it's not the first one in the past few games. |
^ Good points.. but again, I have yet to hear him call out Bernier or Pyatt. Those guys make the big $$ too. I do wanna see AV or anyone swing at a knucklepuck in the air while falling down.. let's face it, AV does not like Wellwood for some reason... Isn't this what Matt Cooke said too and Naslund? Anyways, hope to see him gone still as all he does is ride out Lu.. |

Keep Pyatt in the lineup. |

But you know, according to the Coach, it's a Wellwood thing. Had nothing to do with the goaltenders considered high-calibre even amongst NHL standards. Quote:

Lol @ none of u even mentioning that wellwood plays on EVERY powerplay Perhaps that's why pyatt, bernier, etc aren't being called out? Or did u guys even take into consideration that players like Pyatt and bernier play other roles while wellwood is pretty much a 1 dimensional player? Rick ball pretty much summed up all my points today on his showed and agreed that it was well justified being directed at wellwood and for once I agree completely with him |
Next issue of the Hockey News magazine states that there's a good chance the Canucks could deal Raymond + Grabner for Gaborik If its just those two I'm all for it. But it wouldn't happen unless Minny feels they aren't going to make the playoffs. |

Even though he plays for 1 shift per PP, take it from a player's perspective. When you're doing an avg of 10 mins per game because the top 6 forwards monopolize the icetime, you're gonna miss more often than you're gonna hit. Your game will not be in tune, your rythim will not be as fluid and your reads will not be as sharp in comparison to those who log premium icetime. This guy was never meant to shoulder the Canuck's offensive production. That's the primary responsibility of the top 6. Being 3rd string just means chip in when you can. And he's a lot better of a scoring plug than our Manitoba affiliates. Seriously, if it wasn't just for Kipper and Turco, we'd have 6 different Wellwood threads in CDC and everyone in here saying: "Wellwood, I knew it all along" |

I wouldn't trade anyone for Gaborik unless it was Pyatt. Seriously. Just wait till free agency and you'll have him for free. |
