Wow, just following up around the league. Seems like a pretty eventful night last night. Pens coach Michel Therrien fired. Ovechkin scores a hat trick, leads NHL with 41 goals. 7 goals from #2 Parise/Carter.

I love following this guy and watching him succeed. Especially considering how much this guy was slagged in the Crosby vs. Ovechkin comparison era. During the time, it seemed like ppl just hated on him just because he is Russian, and Crosby is Canadian.

Harvey Specter 02-16-2009 02:02 PM

What about that Mike Green eh.

LOL, what a hit.

Hondaracer 02-16-2009 03:15 PM

fuck ya that was massive

syee 02-16-2009 03:29 PM

hehe...defintely a nice hit. Nice to see a captain step up and stand up for his guy getting hit. A great demonstration of leading by example.

Good god...Salo has a hamstring injury.

I have never, in my entire life, seen somebody so fragile.

hi5-ive 02-16-2009 04:41 PM

hope he gets better by tomorrow.

I think at this point, the Canucks have to keep getting wins to keep themselves in the playoff race. As you can see, 5th and 9th place is just 2 points away, so winning every game and keeping ahead of 8th is paramount. Also, the Canucks have to be somewhat strategic about who they play against. You probably don't want to play against San Jose or Detroit in the first round (OK, well, with how we do, maybe the Red Wings might be OK) and get bumped off before you can make it into the 2nd round.

I don't think its out of the question at all.....sure unlikely, but those 2 Nucks-Flames games represent an 8 point swing.....win both in regulation and we're only 5 pts back, with 24 games over which to make it up.

Obviously those 2 games are crucial though.

Harvey Specter 02-16-2009 07:59 PM

I would love to see the Canucks win the NW but the reality is the Flames this season are a very good team (home and away) and I really don't see them going on a long losing streak.

suprasian 02-16-2009 09:25 PM

holy fuck you would think atl would pull hedberg after the 5th goal. fucking LA is sick coming back being down 3 goals on 3 different times. this race will go on until the very last regular season game. vancouver wins 5-2 tomorrow!

Tim Budong 02-16-2009 09:30 PM

i think OT is very likely
as long as luongo plays like kipper
and both of the top line(s) from both sides are shut out
it will be a game of hte defence
something the canucks should take pride in becuz the Dmen are rackin in pts

and a team to be considered a top tier team has scoring from EVERYWHERE

which is why, for MTL to add schneider, who is a WINNER and can play big minutes is critical for success

Harvey Specter 02-16-2009 09:33 PM

ATL scored 8 goals last night, 6 tonight but yeah LA is becoming a major threat in the west.

Ya... but for me.. i could care less about the NW title. All I want is the Cup and I just want some playoff hockey this year!!

Well, pulled muscle is just bad conditioning...or maybe he's just getting old and falling apart.

Same but finishing 7th or 8th is like a Kiss of Death. Having to face Detroit and San Jose one round after the other requires nothing short of a miracle run.

silk 02-17-2009 08:59 AM

It is safer if we stay 5th or 6th place or division leader
but again, San Jose does not usually do well in playoff..<-- thats what i heard before

Durrann1984 02-17-2009 09:21 AM

calgary vs vancouver tonight
big hitting tonight

the nucks can handle Detroit no problem...the past couple revisions seem to play well vs the wings

as for the Sharks, the last game was tight becuz the sharks were w/o Rob Blake.

Aside from this, the Sharks this year vs last year look and play a much different style of game. We will know when playoff time comes and thats about it.

hehe...yeah, definitely need to pick the teams you play against, although that's not always possible. Right now, we just need to keep up with the wins to even stay in the top 8, let alone pick a position. The losses to some questionable teams in January really bit us in the ass. If we even only won half of our games, we'd be in a whole different position.

Anyways, the Sharks are definitely a different team, and a force to be reckoned with. As to whether they'll choke in the playoffs, it remains to be seen. Remember, they've got a different coach this year so who knows how they'll handle the post season.

Tim Budong 02-17-2009 10:51 AM

and they got a coach that was with the wings
under mike babcock, who is successful

hotjoint 02-17-2009 11:02 AM

let see if the canucks can have another penalty free game. I doubt it but we'll see :)

I predict a fight in the first 5 minutes. How about a bunch of tit for tat fighting majors but no power plays for the flames? :)
