man Truong the chest peice is fantastic, great work |
oops |
Just gonna straight up ask. Is it acceptable for a big white guy to get Japanese/Chinese style tattoos? Such as full Sleeves and across the upper back etc. |
Its super common, just make sure not to get some heat bag shit that says you are a high ranking yakuza member lol. Japanese tattoos are absolutely classic forms of art but many have significant cultural meaning. I'd say do some research about some of the ideas you are interested in and respect that meaning and its cool. |
That's what I was worried about. I absolutely love the art (hannya mask anyone) but I know a lot of people still think yakuza style tattoos are somewhat taboo, which is understandable. If I can get away with it, and do the prerequisite studying I'd love to finally get some ink |
Totally normal. I have a Dragon/Phoenix back piece in full color and it "could" be considered Japanese/Chinese style I suppose. My artist does a lot of that style and he's a white dude. Like westopher said, it's a style of art. Personally I would stay away from characters in a language you do not speak or understand. I've seen many peeps with some lettering tattoos only to find out years later that it means something completely different than what they originally thought. What a burn! |
I'm a white guy with a dragon on half my back and a barong on my ribs(the protective spirit from Bali, not the pinoy shirt). As long as your are getting the tattoo for you, who cares what others think. Be careful about characters though a fried of mine wanted his name in Japanese and ended up with scab(his name is Mark) |

if i ever get stupid and start on my legs i've toyed with the idea of having somone like Cohen or kind of a long shot in Horiyu coming up with Japanese style bears, like take a modern approach on two big grizzly's or somthing. Not too many bears seemingly associated with the Japanese style |
Not too sure how hori would take that idea to be honest. He does not seem to open to straying away from the traditional irezumi style. Maybe just shoot the shop an email though, maybe he can make some sort of grizzly foo dog hybrid haha |
thats why i said it would probably be a long shot for most who stick to traditional stuff oh well, thats only when i start getting covered anyway and it probably wont happen lol |
Stolen from truong's instagram "Happy to announce the extremely talented @wt_tattoo from @chronicink will be doing a guest spot at our little shop I call home. 1 Attachment(s) Can anybody recommend a cheap, quality artist that can do something small, roughly the size of a loonie? Looking into getting a scales of justice on my inner wrist. Tattoos are addicting Again, looking for the cheapest option (whilst maintaining quality) since the piece is so small |
