And yeah understandable on the artist and all. Either going full or half gotta think about it for a while personally don't really know what I want yet figured I'd give him kind of an idea and go from there

$50/hr is something you need to avoid at all costs. The standard going rate is $160/hr and goes up to like $220/hr. Some artists at the end of the session will just say give me *enter amount here* and it could end up being a discount but will not drop to $50/hr. Might drop like by $20-$30/hr. So with that said, you can do the math. At $50 that's 1/3 the cost.

Regardless, cost is one thing you shouldn't even think about. Don't settle for an artist just because it's cheap. A tattoo is forever and more often than not you do pay for what you get. Do not rush any decision you make. Be open to checking out a few artists and don't just decide on one just because somebody said they are good.

$50/hr and people that say they can tattoo you at their house stay away from.

Alpine50 07-13-2012 01:11 AM

Yeah I already have 1 but that just sounded off $50/hr I've always went with good tattoos ain't cheap and cheap tattoos ain't good. $50/hr sounds so sketch lol I'd never do that

So i'm heading down to Mountain View Cali in late August for Rock The Bells. I wanna check out the local tattoo scene and maybe get a small piece done. Any recommendations for artists in the area?:fullofwin:

Check out Adam Sky, he's one of Vancouver's better artists, working in San Fran now

Normally more of a custom work guy, but if he's just starting out maybe he has time for a small piece you're looking for

Want to know what makes a timeless tattoo? And why those "animals with tophats" and "mustache on your finger" tattoos will look completely stupid in 10 years?

Kiroshin 07-26-2012 02:18 AM

Hey guys, I've decided I want to get my first tattoo and I figured this would be the best place to ask my questions. I've looked through a few threads and I really like the work James Acrow and Steve Moore do, but I'm guessing the wait list for these guys is pretty long. Can someone confirm this?

I want to get a half sleeve done before I leave for school in september, do you guys think it's possible to get a tattoo of these artists skill finished before that time? I'm pretty set on a B&G piece, but maybe with a little bit of color like the second last one in this gallery http://www.acrow.ca/tattoo.html . Thanks in advance!

SkinnyPupp 07-26-2012 02:20 AM

You won't get an appointment with those guys by September.. unless you mean 2013 :fuckthatshit:

There are other good artists in town, those guys are just the best of the best, world famous types. What style are you thinking of?

Kiroshin 07-26-2012 02:27 AM

Haha yeah I didn't think that'd be possible. I read your FAQ and I really like Jame's Acrow's realistic style, probably something on my forearm. Would it be correct to call it a forearm sleeve? :P
