Ah, it can't be the same for Science/Math right? Seeing how that's all factual/Black and white versus projects and whatnot. I imagine it'd be easier for a teacher to mark +5 assignments in science than +5 business proposals

Mike Oxbig 04-28-2013 06:25 PM

Business department is strict with 40 students for sure but is Marketing the same thing?

not sure mate, seeing as statistics is a black and white class. The stat department head/counselor cheryl is really nice, I suggest talking to her or sending her an email (its on the website)

Kayci 04-28-2013 09:37 PM

Stats is under the Math/Stats department. Not sure how lenient they are either, but sometimes the limiter is because of seats and equipment in the labs. Last I remember, teachers were saying if they let you in, they'll have to let everyone else in too etc etc not fair blah blah. Just attend unless you're really busy and need the extra time for something else. Worse case is a no anyway.

18th and 10th on my most important courses

is there any hope? :c i will pray to the based god that he gets me through this struggle
math/french

jesus shit...good reality check to be on top of my registration time instead of delaying it for 30 mins and procrastinating checking my course times/schedule.

What determines your activation time?

TOS'd 04-29-2013 12:06 AM

Although waitlist ends after the first week of class. You can still keep attending class for two more weeks until the last day possible for registering in a class. During the second week, most of those waitlisters have already given up. You can still attend though and keep checking the "search courses" page to see if there are any spots remaining. One semester, I was like 20th by the end of week one. I continued to go to class and did the notes and the work. I wasn't allowed to hand them in or do any quizzes. A day or so before the end of third week, a kid dropped out and since no one from the waitlist was showing up other than me, I was given the spot. Because there is no waitlist during the second and third week, if a spot opens up, there is no way of the prof to contact anyone that was on the waitlist to see if they want to register for the class. So the prof would probably continue on with 39 students. When I finally got in, I worked out a deal with the prof. I was given a deadline for the following week to finish and hand it all the homework and catch up on missed notes etc, which was fine since I had been regularly attending classes.

hmm, thanks for this bit of info. How does this work if like +10-20 people show up to the class then? It'll be extremely crowded and i don't think a prof would put up with that

10-20 ppl wont show up and waste their time in a class they MAY not get into. I needed to get into that class so I went.

whEEls7 04-29-2013 08:23 PM

I have an offer for an english course but im afraid if i accept it it will drop my waitlist in other english courses ;_;

Would you guys say I'm pretty safe if I show up for weeks after waitlist ends if i'm right now
6
7
14

the 14 is really important. Math class

Kayci 04-29-2013 10:59 PM

If the english class you received an offer is the same as the ones you're waitlisted for, you can't register until you drop out of the waitlist - so make sure it doesn't conflict with any other courses!

You have a pretty good chance at 6 & 7. I've managed to get into some being 36th on the list. Don't sweat it too much, there are more sections offered during winter and spring sessions than summer, so you'll get it then. Plus you now have some credits giving you priority over those who just applied to langara.

whEEls7 05-03-2013 11:18 AM

5-3-9 and not really budging :c

Kayci 05-03-2013 07:19 PM

wait till you have to confirm waiting list twice a day, that's when it gets them!

i think my problem is that when youre as low as 3-5 that's what everyone else is thinking, and the only way to get into the course is by people in the actual course dropping

triplexcel 05-05-2013 08:54 AM

I'm still stuck at 24th for my Chem class... Gonna take up Tos'd advice and just go to class anyways and see how it goes.

Good luck man... 5 (English) 3 (French) and 8th for math.

Looking really grim. I dont think anyone will drop english.

Everyone that's gonna drop a course is gonna do it today for the 100% tuition, and past may 10th its just stupid to drop a course since you dont get anything back.

Goodluck! My experiences were based on business classes. So I'm not sure how it would translate with Chem classes, ie. if its a lab you might not be allowed to participate etc.

I'm sure you will be able to get by the first week attending class, but if you choose to try what I did and continue two weeks after, you may not be allowed to sit in (re: first part of my response).

whEEls7 05-06-2013 05:24 PM

Does this school ever have any decent events? I feel like because it's a community college it's social aspect may suffer quite a bit...

Kayci 05-06-2013 06:01 PM

https://www.facebook.com/LangaraSocialClub

They held quite a few good events this year. Few hockey nights, movie, bar, sports etc.

triplexcel 05-09-2013 11:30 PM

Looking forward to these events since its my first semester back after a long break from school.

I don't think i'll be getting into my Chem class since it says that theres no further confirmations required.... :(
