They're unlikely to hire someone who will have problems being scheduled.

I would fib a little if I was you.

They did state they hire students, but students have a special schedule where they have to work all evening shifts.

They seemed reluctant though about hiring students.

They'll ask if you're planning on going to school.
You'll have to lie to them.

My interview went well I think.
But I came late! of all things.

I woke up late and just missed the bus that would have gotten me there on time.

That kinda sucked, I just pretended it didn't happen. . .

hmm.... lieing not a good idea.

Probably shouldn't of pretended that it happened, apologizing like crazy and calling ahead to let them know you're coming late would of went over better.

well anyways hopefully the interview went smoothly for you.

Probably would have been a smarter move.
I was panicking though.

We'll see what happens :(

How have you guys been applying to positions at Shaw? Via their careers website?

I've been applying to their positions for almost a month and I've gotten no responses. I have tons of experience w/ computers, but not so much w/ customer service. I figured they're big on prior customer service experience...but honestly, I really have no idea what they're looking for.

you can only apply online on their website. don't give up, just keep on trying

if you've applied for the technical support position.. the problems aren't generally all that hard, so i guess being all knowledgeable in computers is a plus, but not a requirement since they'll train you anyways

blazingazn 07-17-2009 03:34 AM

They're looking for a lot of phone experience, customer service is the biggest part of it.

Computer knowledge is necessary as they would expect you to finish training in 4 weeks time.

what did you say, when they asked you how many time you missed/late work in a year?
I said 1 or 2
I was being honest, but really, how can you not miss a work at least one day a year due to sickness or weather
I'm thinking that might've been my mistake LOL

They didn't ask if I was ever late, but that obviously has happened here and there.

As for sick, I answered truthfully and told them I can't remember if I was ever away from work because I was sick.

Haven't heard back, so I'm thinking it won't be good news.

They said they would email if I didn't get the position.

It's been a week now :(

Question for you guys: how much importance does Shaw put on certifications? CCNA, A+, etc. How many of you have certifications?

I don't have any certifications and they still interviewed me.

Those will likely only be important in a Tier 2 position or installers?

blazingazn 07-22-2009 09:46 PM

They checked my references with my current Manager.

Is that a good sign?

Keiichi 07-29-2009 02:06 AM

Does anyone have a phone number to their HR department? Or can i just call the customer service line and ask to be transferred over?

BTW Question for anyone currently working in their customer service call center, where are you guys working from? is it from Metro town?

bui95 07-29-2009 06:27 AM

shaw's located downtown. and i doubt their customer service rep has the hr department's number for you to call. when you did your interview, wasnt there a contact number given to you to call if you were going to be late or if you couldnt make it? the person that interviewed you didnt give you his/her number?

They would tell you anything other than if your application online is of interest you will be contacted.

Most big companies only take online applications now.

Jeez you got that friggin right. And they called me like a million times to check my damn references and for extra information.

I don't really wanna work for them anymore :D
Plus my final interview was on July 10th. That'll make it 3 weeks friday.

What the . . .?

blazingazn 08-19-2009 07:45 PM

Just wanted to let everyone know that I finally got the job!

Very cool company, awesome benefits, great view and great coworkers.

Sorry I can't really hook up jobs, I asked.
All I can really do is make new hire referrals.

The shaw careers site is very similar to the internal postings for shaw employees.

TOPEC 08-20-2009 01:34 PM

^ so it took u 3 weeks to get hired?
did u have any referrals when u applied?
and how long did it take after applying online for them to call you?

From my last interview July 10th, to my offer via phone on Aug 13th, so it took over a month :(

I didn`t have any referrals at all, but shaw offers $$$ if someone is referred and works for 6 mnths.

I got a phone call the next day after applying.
Right timing I guess.

nns 08-21-2009 08:21 AM

What position did you apply for?
