So, I finally got a chance to checkout La Belle Patatae this evening. I ordered the Traditional Poutine for $9.50, however I got it for $5 instead cause I had a coupon.

My first impression of the poutine was, the cheese curds were HUGE, unlike Costco's Poutine, the cheese curds were served warm, big and chewy. It had a very distinctive flavor compared to all the other cheese curds that I've had before.

The fries were nothing special, they were just like any other fries at other specialty poutine shops.

Now onto the Gravy, this is definitely the cream of the crop, I've never had such tasty gravy for a poutine before, it was rich, thick, with just the right amount of salt. Unlike the poutines from other places, the gravy was not salty at all.

Personally, it deserves a 9/10 for its overall presentation and flavor. It's definitely the best poutine I've had. Far better than the one besides Celebrities on Davie and Burrard.

Harvey's pountine is better then costco.

To me, Poutine is a unmitigated mess of saturated fat upon saturated fat upon more saturated fat, but I find of the handful of places that I've tried poutine at, Vera's on Granville would probably be on the top of the list. Generous servings and more gourmet.

Nevertheless, leave it to the Quebecans to invent something like poutine...

that is true, but its one of those things that once in awhile u just dont give a fuck about what you eat...as long as it tastes good and gulp down with a large coke than its all good

gave brado's poutine a try over the weekend and loved it. the gravy was not overly salty, and the cheese curds were delicious and the fries were very remained crispy throughout.

i don't think they use regular cheese curds there, when i had it they seemed just like chunks of mozzarella, they shouldn't melt that easily

Thought I would bump this up again.

Has anyone eaten costco poutines lately?

Not much has changed.

Brado's still better!

costco > brado's.

Having it right now first time. It's salty at the bottom. It's not in styrofoam but also not as big as I thought. Also it's not 3.99, Came to 5.59 after tax. I was at the downtown Costco.

I'm not a poutine lover, but have had both Costco and brado's. Before I tried brado, I thought costcos was pretty killer. Now brado has left an urge for me keep going back to brado. Really good.

Poutine is my absolute favourite food!... I think I have pretty much tried every establishment in Vancouver (at least TWICE), Belgian Fries, White Spot, Costco, Burger King, Fritz, Crave, + over a dozen more I can't remember... yes it's a heart attack waiting to happen but so damn freakin' good!

I still think La Belle Patate is the best by a long shot!

Got the Poutine Pizza, a smoked meat poutine AND a Philly Sub! I actually liked the sub the most, the poutine was good, but not on par with La Belle, I would put it a fringe 2nd or solid 3rd... battle it out with Fritz... oh and the pizza was actually kinda gross... it sounded like a good idea at the time when I ordered it...lol but it's got no flavour and impossible to eat fast so the cheese just gets cold and solidifies into a block of gunk ...

Burger King gets my vote for most under-rated, for a fast food joint they got it down pretty good ...
Costco for most over-rated! I don't know how Costco gets so much poutine-props from you guys, it was very 'meh' to me when I had it, I've been twice and both times the cheese was pretty bad and salty!

I've had GOOD poutines at Coast, Chambar and Crave but that's cheating, they add some crazy delicious stuff (Lobster, Braised Ribs) in there so it's not a "real" poutine in my books  ... but pretty yummy!

ShadowBun 07-26-2011 10:15 PM

I find Costco's really salty. too salty for my buds.
Is La Belle's less salty?

Obsideon 07-26-2011 10:20 PM

Compared to Costco, all other poutine is less salty... I didn't like Costco's at all ... trust me La Belle is good stuff

Oh and I think I had the worst poutine a few days ago on the BC Ferry haha

rageguy 07-26-2011 10:20 PM

Costco's poutine is super crispy and extra salty. The cheese is fine and so is the gravy. There's really nothing bad if you don't mind the extra sodium. La Belle is hands down Vancouver's best poutine. Somewhat salty, but just so damn good.

Get the La Belle Poutine at La Belle. It's got smoked meat and stuff. Awesome mix.

XplicitLuder 07-26-2011 10:43 PM
