What other poutins have you tried other than Costco's that lead you to that conclusion?? :p

-lincolnboi- 05-23-2010 01:11 AM

costco's fries are pretty good, but the gravy is way too salty. tried Anny's the other day, good gravy, but the fries were mediocre. their maple twist cone is awesome!

Yes! The maple twist cone is AWESOME!

The fries there (in my experience) are hit'n'miss. I've had delicious fries one day and crummy fries the next. :(

hirevtuner 05-23-2010 10:02 AM

had the Vera's poutine yesterday, it was pretty average, but the fries were crispy, gravy was a little salty for my taste and the cheese curds didn't all melt

2damaxmr2 05-23-2010 12:56 PM

Pro tip: KFC gravy + Costco fries, cheese curd = profit.

skiiipi 05-23-2010 08:17 PM

not sure if it was mentioned earlier in this thread
but Zako's on the corner of cambie/broadway has great poutines
and even better montreal smoked meat

Went to Belgium Fries yesterday afternoon and had the regular poutine. It tasted like the Costco one except the gravy wasn't as salty.

Nice thread. I gotta try some of these recommendations. I love poutine.

IMASA 05-24-2010 08:38 PM

Alright, after seeing the pics on the previous page, I went to La Belle Patatae and tried their smoked meat poutine. I did not like the cheese at all, tasted like rubber erasers. Isn't this stuff supposed to melt? The fries, meat and gravy were good though.

hamsup 05-25-2010 07:54 AM

Dude.. that is what squeeky cheese is suppose to taste like !!!!!!

Expresso 05-25-2010 11:10 AM

Yea I've heard that MTL style the fresh curds are not supposed to melt very easily.

I like mine with melty cheese and super crispy fries lol, total opposite.

LiquidTurbo 05-25-2010 01:13 PM

Ya, its a matter of personal preference whether or not you like the squeaky cheese.. its the original style. Personally I quite like it.. A nice change to the gloppy cheese of other places.

how much is the costco poutine and is it big or is it the same size as their fries?
i've only had their fries and they are quite good. i wasn't aware that they carried poutine as well

it was like 3.99 the last time i had it. they come in the styrofoam plate/bowl things that you usually get with the chicken strips + fries combo if that helps...i've never ordered a side of fries before, so i don't know how big those are. it's quite a portion if you ask me lol

Anakin 05-25-2010 08:50 PM

i think la belle patate has the most authentic poutine around here, likely the best, you can't beat the real thing

xPhuong 06-03-2010 04:08 PM

I just had a poutine at Brado's Pizza it's on commercial drive.
I got this deal 29.99 for Large Pizza 10 Chicken Strips + Fries, Large Pooutine and 4 cans of pepsi.

Shit the poutine was like KFC GRAVY, Melting cheese and like crispy fries like church's chicken fries but cut like kfc fries :)

Wife had a craving for poutine, so I dug up this thread and decided to go give Anny's Dairy Bar a try. Poutine was pretty good. What really hit the spot, though, was the maple butter twist. It was perfect with the poutine as a "chaser" (for lack of a better word). Alternate between the ice cream and poutine, ftw!

Poutine 7.5/10
Maple Butter Twist 9.75/10

The combo.......... 10/10 pure synergy

The curds are squeeky. Cheese did not melt, but if you push them under the hot gravy they semi melt. It's the way poutine is supposed to be.

BTW, Hondaracer, they sell curds there. $23.00/kg. Not bad, I guess. It's hard to get that shit. Apparently, a lot of Quebecers go there to buy the cheese.

I guess home made is best, since you can make it the way you like. I recall Costco used to steam the cheese curds before putting them into the fries and gravy. This was long ago and they obviously don't do that anymore.

Next. Fritz. I would like to go tonight, but two helpings of poutine might be enough to send me to the grave. LOLOLOL

bcrdukes 09-12-2010 03:11 PM

Glad you enjoyed Anny's Dairy Bar! :)

J____ 09-12-2010 04:12 PM

for some reason i always think of something else when i hear POUTINE lol

willystyle 09-12-2010 04:48 PM

I bought 2 coupons for the large poutine ($20 value) at La Belle Patatae. I am planning to give it a shot tonight.

Any recommendations?

So, I went to Fritz tonight. The poutine was better than Anny's. The cheese was really good. Straight from Québec, so they say. The cheese is not squeeky and melts easily. It actually has flavour. It's more expensive. Time to go a few different places next week.

I cannot go back to Costco poutine ever again. OK, maybe....... it's $3.99 afterall.

murd0c 09-12-2010 09:51 PM

I don't go gravy so when I get a poutine I get no gravy and extra cheese and put it in the microwave and with just ketchup and vinegar. So so good yummmm
