Lots of overpaying going on, in the big picture the sedins deal is quite the favorable deal for the nucks

6thGear. 07-01-2009 04:10 PM

The contract the sedins got is fair. I'm happy with those numbers

Its actually 7.5 that Gabby is getting. http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=283470

68style 07-01-2009 04:31 PM

LOL so basically we're worse now than last year... same team minus Ohlund. That's awesome.

*edit* I see Gaborik's numbers changed from 5.5 to 7.5... now I understand why Gillis didn't bother........

hmm, http://coyotes.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=433163

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have signed goaltender Jason LaBarbera to a two-year contract. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

LaBarbera, 29, posted a record of 8-10-6 with a 2.78 goals against average (GAA), a .901 save percentage (SV%) and two shutouts in 28 games last season with the Los Angeles Kings and Vancouver Canucks. After beginning the season with Los Angeles, LaBarbera was traded to Vancouver on Dec. 30, 2008 and went on to post a 3-2-2 record with a 2.66 GAA and a .915 SV% in nine games with the Canucks.

In 107 career NHL games with the New York Rangers, Los Angeles and Vancouver, LaBarbera has compiled a record of 37-44-10 with a 2.97 GAA, a .902 SV% and four shutouts.

Labarbera has also appeared in 247 career America Hockey League (AHL) games with Hartford and Manchester, posting a record of 131-75-20 with a 2.15 GAA, a .928 SV% and 28 shutouts. He was awarded the 2004 Les Cunningham Award as the AHL Most Valuable Player while also receiving the Aldege “Baz” Bastien Award as the League’s Outstanding Goaltender following the 2003-04 and 2006-07 seasons. In addition, he is a two-time First Team AHL All-Star and set the AHL record for shutouts in a season with 13 in 2003-04.

A native of Burnaby, British Columbia, LaBarbera was originally drafted by the New York Rangers in the third round (66th overall) of the 1998 Entry Draft. Prior to his professional career, LaBarbera spent four seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with Tri-City, Portland and Spokane, compiling a record of 62-58-14. He was a member of Portland’s 1998 Memorial Cup Championship team and was named a WHL All-Star in 1999-00.

Labarbera signs 2 year contract with yotes... so I guess schneider is going to take his place as backup.
Also, healtley agrees to sign with edmonton? eklund talk though.

pure.life 07-01-2009 04:34 PM

Gaborik to Rangers for 7+ MIL!???
are you joking?

LOL!

murd0c 07-01-2009 04:36 PM

Fuck

6thGear. 07-01-2009 04:37 PM

Once again, Rangers over pay for another player.

[ jay ] 07-01-2009 04:44 PM

Wtf is this Rome guy?

Ikkaku 07-01-2009 04:45 PM

so, it turns out the significant move MG talked about was resigning the Sedins :lol

pure.life 07-01-2009 04:47 PM

Gionta is heading to the Habs.

http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=283471

This is on top of Gomez, Cammalleri, Spacek and Gil

!Nhan 07-01-2009 04:51 PM

I think Tampa is going to be a really good team next year.

68style 07-01-2009 04:52 PM

Man Habs just spent what... 24.5 million on 5 players today? How can they even afford that under the cap?

Hondaracer 07-01-2009 04:56 PM

all of the teams who got the big names have handcuffed themselves, Gillis still has the canucks in a relatively good position

Why wouldn't that be significant? He is able to retain 2/3 of his scoring line. And instead of having to find 3-4 top 6 forwards, he only has to look for 1-2 the most. He jsut cut his headaches in half.

Hondaracer 07-01-2009 05:07 PM

lets look at a possible "plan B"

Jaybo - 6.6
Gaborik - 7.5

= 14.1

rather have sedins at 12 million a scoring tandem, or have 1 sniper and 1 dman at 2 million more

Yup I agree, everyone needs to keep in mind the Canucks still need to keep enough cap space and expiring contracts for next year to resign Kesler and Luongo. Take Chicago for example, with the Hossa signing they fucked themselves for next summer when Kane, Toews, Keith, Barker, Bolland and Versteeg need new contracts.

hahaha Gaborik a Ranger, just shows that Jason Botchford is up to his usual reporting style of making stuff up. Gaborik never bought a house in Vancouver and Botchford also reported twice a few days ago that the Sedins signed different deals already haha
