http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2009/...gillis_sweden/

"Our focus is trying to get our own players signed first," Gillis said. "Beyond that we will explore every opportunity we have ... but we have budgeted for our own players plus some other significant additions, so we'll see how successful we are on July 1."

The NHL free-agent period opens at Noon ET on Wednesday.

Come on we want new fricken news here!!!!!

SumAznGuy 06-30-2009 10:53 AM

Any word on Wellwood? I do wish the Canucks would resign him. I thought he played pretty well in the playoffs.

cressydrift 06-30-2009 11:16 AM

Did not see it in Stuff99 post of the article from the SUN this morning, but there was a side note that they talked to Gabroiks agent and the rumor of him buying a house in Vancouver was completely false:(. Hes been in Slovakia the whole time and has not even been here. Another Canuck rumor down the drain....:(

If we played more of an offensive game, Gabby is the best UFA out there. Hossa got owned this year, and I dont think he will be the same. Havlat go K.O'd and he will be f'd for a little while. Mike Camalari is good, but he was on Calgary...

Ohh and still no info on Lu..... But that deal must be done....

As discussed before.. Do you think the Agent will go ahead and tell the world that the Canucks violated the rules of talking to FA before july 1st? Ala Demitra saying the same thing.

But ya, I do have a good feeling that Gaborik will be signing here and it will be hella exciting.

cressydrift 06-30-2009 11:25 AM

I guess I will believe it when it happens.

rsx 06-30-2009 11:27 AM

Thank God Pyatt's not coming back.

Have you taken into account the countless other teams that will be competing for his services? I think it's wiser to wait and let things unravel on its own.

murd0c 06-30-2009 12:16 PM

In the free agent market you can't wait cause lots of team will be calling and if you wait to
Decide you will lose out in the end

shawn79 06-30-2009 12:57 PM

cdc saying rumors sedins signed for 5 yrs... hopefully its 5-5.5

RRxtar 06-30-2009 01:05 PM

according to TSN,
the sedin's have not released the terms of the offer but gillis said he would prefer a 5year deal. it sort of sounded like they are thinking about it.
bobby Lu's deal sounds like its about 5 years @ 8million. we will know tomorrow
TSN said gabby, camalleri and a puck moving D is plan B

also according to TSN, minus the sedin's we have 13 players signed and $22m left.
