Yes, but if I was Wellwood and I put up better numbers than Bernier and see him getting a higher contract, I would be pissed,

then in the earlier topic of Matts Sundin's worth of $10 million last year vs. Gaborik's worth being $7.5 on his contract expiry.

Lol @ Matts Sundin....dude it's Mats.

Decent signing; lets see what else Gillis is planning to do.

He responds:

When just a page before, he knocks on Gaborik because inflated contracts shouldn't be necessitated by "intangibles" which for some reason, he has no qualms with Sundin being offered $10million for 2 years. (supposedly for this year and last's)

Lastly, post July 1st, he comments on how superstar contracts have a tendency to "handcuff" teams yet he has no qualms that our own superstars handcuff our team. (ie. Luongo asking for $8m)

Seriously. Mike Gillis could fart and Hondaracer would think it's a good move. His arguments and opinions swing back and forth so much depending on which way is most convenient of sucking Canuck balls. That lack of objectivity seriously negates the merits of his opinions.

What so now every fucking post i have to think out my exact points or else they get broken down by your faggot ass?

As i said before, resigning the sedins was a "splash" and you cant tell me otherwise

Please explain to me how players who take LESS then market value handcuff your team? if a player can make more somewhere else, yet takes less to stay in Vancouver they are doing Vancouver a favor and not "handcuffing" them per say because they are leaving money on the table which can be used in other places, to sign other players, and re-up other contracts which will be coming forward in the future

You don't think Gaborik at 7.5 handcuffs the rangers? you don't think Jaybo at 6.7 handcuffs the flames? OF COURSE IT DOES because it's taking money away from positions and leaving gaps of which cannot be filled by "role" players, the sedins are 6 million are a steal and offer so much more than both those players in terms of overall performance, both are more reliable and fit better in Vancouver than arguably any of the FA's that were out there.

and please please tell me what parts of the Samuelsson deal is so offending to you? when i say its a good signing and I throw a little optimism into the future of the club, im riding MG's dick? the only downside of the deal is the length of term, other than that, could you really ask for a better fit cap/team wise than him?

as i said before, insane physical specimen, has played on the same line as the sedins in the Olympics, a right handed shot, and a player with cup experience

but no, this is a horrible move right?

there's a difference between an optimistic educated fan and a homer, as there is a difference between a pessimistic fan, and just a hater.

fuck off im tired of your shit

Just calling out Hondaracer and his self-imposed hockey expertise (I like to meet arrogance with arrogance / fire with fire).

So much for his MG jock sucking when MG lucked out. Had Matts accepted the initial offer, we'd be paying Matt's $10 million this upcoming season. That contract would've handcuffed us this summer; and for a price very much well above it's worth. Far more inflated than Gaborik's.

Regardless, the chips have fallen where they are with the Canucks. No choice left but to run with it.

Exactly. Put some thoughts into your posts before you spout them off like the hockey gospel you think it is. Other than that, its just drivel.

OMG! Big news! The team is still the same. You do know what a Splash means right? No changes whatsoever doesn't make it as a Splash  And neither does minor changes. That's okay, keep backtracking, it's getting quite entertaining at this point. It's like playing Whack-A-Mole.

Handcuffing is not determined by the degree of variation a player takes away from his value. The true extent of handcuffing is determined by how big of a piece in a pie does 1 sole player occupy, and how much is left over for the rest.

Refer to my point about Sundin and his initial contract offer by MG. Last year, you were all for the $20 million if thats what it took to get him here. Yet do you realize how much that would've "handcuffed" us this summer? "Handcuffing" which your hockey wisdom so strongly oppose to at this time and which you wholeheartedly applause MG this year for avoiding.

Where was this criticism last year when the very same guy you applaud now would've done the very crime you disagree with?

Here is when thinking before you post would've come in handy. You sure do change directions a lot and in a whim. Idiot.

This is not a contest of which fan is better than the other. I frankly don't much care for the title. What I do care is a contest on whose wits have more merit.

Unforunately for you, you're best hockey wisdom is just agreeing with MG at every turn and passing it off as your own brilliant call.

Nash signs eight-year extension

Only a few months removed from the franchise's first-ever playoff berth, the Columbus Blue Jackets took a major step Friday in ensuring their upward climb continues.

According to TSN, team captain Rick Nash agreed to an eight-year contract extension worth $62.4 million. Nash, 25, recorded 40 goals and 79 points in 78 regular-season games this past season as Columbus posted a 41-31-10 record and finished seventh in the Western Conference.

Nash was the No. 1 pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft and immediately began his career with the Blue Jackets that fall. In his sophomore season, he exploded for a career-high 41 goals, sharing the Rocket Richard Trophy with Jarome Iginla of Calgary and Ilya Kovalchuk of Atlanta.

Nash has career totals of 194 goals and 355 points in 441 games over six seasons with Columbus. He was set to become a free agent following the 2009-10 season.

It would be EPIC if this apparent mistake is enforced!!!

Sources tell TSN the NHL and the NHLPA are investigating what might have been an enormous mistake by the Chicago Blackhawks.

Chicago tendered qualifying offers to several key players this week, including Kris Versteeg, Cam Barker, Ben Eager, Colin Fraser, Aaron Johnson and Troy Brouwer, however the investigation underway is to determine whether the qualifying offers were filed correctly.

If not, there is the remote possibility the qualifying offers could be ruled invalid and the players listed above, conceivably, could be deemed unrestricted free agents because of the blunder.

There are few details, but one source says the players involved didn't receive the necessary notification of the offers.

The National Hockey League is in the process of trying to determine whether the situation was remedied in time.

Chicago general manager Dale Tallon says the qualifying offers were mailed to the players in time, on June 29th, but says because of the July 1 holiday, some of the players didn't receive them in time.

Additional sources say qualifying offers are not supposed to be mailed.

Overnight delivery via courier and direct fax to the players agent is preferred and certified or registered mail is acceptable only if the other means are unavailable.

Tallon says fax copies of the offers were sent to the league, so he doesn't anticipate any significant fall out.

However, sources say some of the qualifying offers were not faxed to the agents.

LA looks scary but that been said they looked pretty deadly last season, all they really needed was a decent goalie.

To be honest regarding that mini spat, resigning the Sedins are great news! I wouldn't call it a splash though, cause you are just staying the same. Splash is if you sign a big superstar in addition to them.

invader 07-03-2009 11:22 PM

I hope the Blackhawks fucked up big time so we can steal their players hehe

well not steal, sign them as free agents and avoid RFA status and compensation.

Exactly, which means YOU most of all should refrain from calling other people idiots. ever!

By the way, what happened to you during the Hawks series? I thought your great hockey analytical mind deduced from the Blues sweep that it was an indication that the Canucks are unstoppable.

It's funny who was right and who was wrong in the end. Exactly. Shut up.
