Phil Kessel is worth the money. Question is how many draft picks are you willing to give up since hes RFA to get him.

MR_BIGGS 07-07-2009 10:37 AM

It's scary how much money Burke will have to play with after next season..

MR_BIGGS 07-07-2009 10:38 AM

Oh and Ron Wilson's an idiot...

UFA list for 2010 there. Big name is Ilya Kovulchuk. I can see Burkie going hard for him.

He's actually a UFA after the 2011/2012 season.

Everyone's gonna go after Kovie if he makes it to the UFA market, especially since Nash is off the table.

The agent for Chris Pronger told Sportsnet that his client has signed a seven-year contract extension that will likely see the defenceman finish his career in Philadelphia.

The confirmation will come down later Tuesday.

The extension is front-loaded to lower the salary cap hit, and is rumoured to be worth $35 million, or five million per season. The deal also includes a no-movement clause.
wow wtf are the Flyers thinking? I can't see Pronger being effective at 42 yrs old with the way he plays. His extension doesn't kick in till after next season so he'll be 35, so the cap hit will remain even if he retires.

The Blackhawks have confirmed winger Kris Versteeg has signed a three-year contract worth a reported $9.25 million.

Versteeg was the Hawks' final restricted free agent believed to be among players who did not receive qualifying offers by the deadline agreed to in the NHL's Collective Bargaining Agreement. The National Hockey League Players' Association filed a grievance on behalf of the players but now have all signed.

Yeah...seems like the Canucks are pretty much boned on the blue line. Who's going to fill Ohlunds ice time?

europeeing 07-07-2009 11:33 PM

How the fuck are the Hawks going to support these ridiculous contracts? Someone is going to have to get moved before the begining of the season, anyone have the exact #s for their most recent cap hits?

It seems as though a lot of teams are fucking themselves over and I don't really understand why?

They're screwed next season when they have to re-sign Toews, Kane, Skille and Keith

Toews + Kane will likely get $6 mill each and Keith will probably get 3-4 mill

Skille won't be as big of a cap hit cause he's still a prospect.

"The $3 million cap hit would put the Blackhawks payroll at $55.578 million for the upcoming season, the NHL's salary cap is set at $56.8 million for the 2009-10 season and the Blackhawks still need to sign a goaltender to backup Cristobal Huet. A trade to free up some money is likely to happen with Versteeg, Barker and Patrick Sharp being named as potential bait."

7seven 07-08-2009 06:36 AM

I think the most likely thing the Hawks are going to do is to bury Sopel's contract in the minors, tho they will still be tight right up against the cap and could get fucked like Calgary last year, having no cap room for call ups to fill in for injuries.
