Man, the next 12 hours or so will be quite interesting for Canucks fans. On one hand we have enough young talent to get a very good rental player or two or a vet D man but on the other hand we risk giving away prospects for a possible rental that might be the biggest bust ever.

both Hodgson or Schneider should only be moved for players who have worthwhile contracts remaining and can provide assistance for more than this year

I don't think we need a rental player with the roster we have right now, I think what we need is a stay at home d man and Cory Schneider needs to be moved this season. His value keeps decreasing and with Lu's long term contract it makes no sense to keep Cory around.

With Hamhuis you get a puck moving Dman who can also play the shut down role.

His contract can be renewed at the end of the season, and seeing he is a BC boy he might want to sign a long term deal. I'm getting ahead of myself, but man would he be a good fit here in Vancouver.

Hamhuis is a rental. He will be a UFA after this season and therefore we cannot and should not give up too much for him. I can see us doing a conditional pick of he signs but with that added, it would be kind of crazy.

In all honesty, I don't see us doing it unless we are unloading a crappy prospect + a second rounder. I don't see us trading the likes of Grabner, Hodgson or Schroeder. And the preds have no need for Schneider so I don't see it happening.

I see us making a push for him MAYBE in the offseason but not making a hard push right now.

Sportsnet made a good point about Hodgon tonight. If we sign Kesler, there really is no point in keeping him around as a 3rd liner. I wouldn't be surprised if Hodgson gets traded especially how things went so sour with the Training Camp debacle. Hodgson has already stated he does not want to deal with Dave Gagner at all anymore too.

but i think they are hoping Hodgson will be out future top player (1st liner?) as he's a very well rounded player with leadership... just like how NYI have tavares and EDM has eberle... maybe cody could become our next trevor linden
