3rd rounder for Alberts

not bad for a 5th/6th guy I guess.

We definitely could use some more grit on the backend

7seven 03-03-2010 11:31 AM

Well at least with Alberts size, we have someone now to clear out the likes of Byfuglien out of Lu's space

Greenstoner 03-03-2010 11:33 AM

i assumed alberts will start on Friday against Chicago ??

Lubomir Visnovsky from Oilers to Ducks for Ryan Whitney

Although I didn't expect a big trade from the Canucks, it alarms me that we have Schneider sitting in the minors. A great asset that hasn't been moved and likely has very little chance to become a starter on our team.

I'd hope we move Schneider before his value climaxes and he becomes known as a minor-league lifer.

Alberts is signed for a few more years at 1 million...so so for a 5/6th dman

although his toughness and hits are really needed. he's ranked near the top in hits this season. he's an upgrade over rome and baumer

Gh0stRider 03-03-2010 11:47 AM

Hurry...go get your Alberts jersey before they sell out.

The Sportsnet panel mentioned that his value will be higher around draft day.

Steve Staios goes to the Flames for Aaron Johnson.

Staios would have been a good addition to the team, but I guess Gillis didn't want to part with one of our prospects like Yann Sauve.

As much as I would have liked to have seen a blockbuster, I think Gillis is waiting for the off-season to make his big push. He'll have Wellwood, Demitra, and Mitchell off the books and he'll re-sign Kesler and pursue Hamhuis hard. Also, I suppose that relations between the team and Hodgson are beginning to thaw so hopefully he'll be able to make the team and play 3rd line minutes.

I actually don't see the point of this in Ducks' perspective.

Whitney is younger
Whitney is cheaper (4m cap hit till 2013)
They are FAIRLY similar in production

IMO, good trade for the Oilers as I'm pretty sure they will most likely trade him during the offseason. Trading Whitney will be EASIER to do that Lubomir.,

Visnovsky is far the better player than Whitney. If you go to various boards and look at Oilers and Ducks fans reactions, you'll see everyone, even Oilers fans will admit they got owned on this trade. Whitney while has size, plays extremely soft and has been brutal in his own end all year and has been getting worse. Only thing is, Oilers save $1.6mil in cap space.

Also keep in mind Visnovsky has been on a brutal Oilers team this year, his stats will only get better now, I suspect back to the solid 1st pairing D-man he was in LA.

No big trades but kind of expected that because most teams are worried about money and taking over large contracts.

And about 10-12 teams in the West still thinks they're in the hunt for a playoff spot.

All IMO of course.

Kev

I have to agree with you on this with the too many teams in the NHL, but in terms of talent, its a double edged sword on how teams see where players fit and what they bring to their team.

I really think that Vishnovsky trade will benefit the ducks. The guy already stepped up in Edmonton on the point when Souray was down, and his point production is steady as well. Poolies take notice, hes gonna come up big in the last 20 games

Nice goal Kesler

Demitra's rebirth of speed should bring consistency to Kesler and Raymond
