Even if we play a team like Phoenix, fans will still pay premium for playoff tickets. I've been a season ticket holder since the lockout season and never have any trouble selling playoff tickets.

That said, if we play a team like Chi or Det, people will pay ultra premium for tickets.

When there's no more movement in the standings, most likely Sunday night.

I think we find out Monday, because the playoffs start on Wednesday. I think Canucks will be Wed/Friday because the Globetrotters are at GM Place Saturday.

Scotty Bowman also said that Vancouver would likely start the playoffs on Wednesday and commented that the Red Wings probably would like to face the Canucks the least in the 1st round due to time zone difference and having to travel through customs.

here's the article

Quote:

"You know, you leave Sami Salo back there with all kinds of time to handle the puck and he's going to do something good back there with the shot and the way he can pass. That's where the game is now.

"I wouldn't want to play them [Detroit] because, as you say, [goalie Jimmy] Howard has had five years seasoning and has made 25 straight starts or something.

"I know Detroit doesn't like starting the first round in western Canada, with the long travel and having to go through customs, and with the Vancouver series likely starting Wednesday and going Wednesday-Friday, that leaves one less day to get out there if they end up playing Vancouver.

"They're not going to like that because after Game 2, you can't fly back [home for Game 3] -- you have to stay overnight. Both teams do. So then, Game 3 seems like it's rushed and Detroit will already have made the flight twice.

MR_BIGGS 04-08-2010 12:42 PM

Imagine a western playoffs with:

Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, LA, Anahiem, San Jose, Phoenix and say Colorado...travel would be much easier...

MR_BIGGS 04-08-2010 12:52 PM

Glass, Hordi and Ryp will all sit out tonight. Baumer is in for Sami, Razor gets the start.

Common sense, buddy. Obviously the tickets won't be printed until the date of the event is known...

Cool... good to know that they have incentive to try and avoid playing us. They should tank their remaining games and let LA in ahead of them. :p

That or win all their remaining games so they play Pheonix.

Actually, I wonder which team would be the closest to Det in terms of geography or shorter flight times.
I would guess Chicago.

tacobell 04-08-2010 01:05 PM

I personally want us to play the Wings. Yes, the wings are playing a lot better than their place in the standings, but if the canucks were truly cup contenders, they would want to beat the best - previous stanley cup champs to become the best.

No disrespect to Phoenix or LA, but we tend to play down to level of competition. Our record against the top teams in the league; Det, Chi, San Jose, Wash, Pitts, are pretty good.

Except... it's still not really all that close, especially when compared to the Eastern Conference.

Well no shit....When you have two New York teams a Buffalo and New Jersey.....you don't need airmiles...

Gumby 04-08-2010 01:59 PM

On the topic of travel distances, this map comes to mind:

So the Canes will be hosting the all star game next year. Not really my first choice of cities to host the all star game or even in my top 10.
