i'm totally embarrassed about that fourth pole glitch and the seemingly lack of preparedness for gretzky's "drive" to the outside cauldron by the media centre. seemed so spur of the moment. no security, no barricades. not enough people. as a result, there was enough space for people to chase after gretzky and make fools of themselves on national/international tv... everything was going so well for the most part and it just sucks to have it fail at the end. even when gretzky was lighting the outside cauldron, there was a moment before the main cauldron lit when i thought there was going to be another malfunction when the flames travelling up one of the arms died. i liked the entire ceremony for the most part. kinda long in certain parts (like that person running through the wheat fields bit)... my favourite was the "ice" breaking up and the orcas swimming through... in any case, such an ominous start to the games. no snow on the local mountains, just rain. the luger dying during training. then the glitches during the ceremony. i wonder what has gone wrong in past games? i can't seem to recall much as i haven't really paid attention to the details of the Olympics before... |
Thank you NBC coverage. Nice shots of the fireworks @ BC Place |
http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/8588/34143984.jpg burned out bulb? and what's with the hooligans chasing Gretzky at the end? |

Has anyone checked out the Heineken House? Worth checking out? |
whos stupid idea was it to give those drums to spectators? it makes it sound like half the people in the stadium is cheering and half is booing. |
Went downtown after the lighting. Saw flashing lights in the clouds from my house, I'm assuming it was the fireworks. Went down to Canada place, and there was a lineup to get into the area, so we just looked at it and went to Guu. I'm home now since I assumed it was gonna be a cluster fuck if I went home any later. |

In Vancouver, that's what 1 billion dollars in security gets. |
KD Lang was fucking awesome. |
I was on the road all day and didn't get a chance to see things live. My buddy kept messaging me telling me about shit I didn't want to hear about (Gretsky lighting the cauldron, the epic fail) and when the ceremony came on at midnight I started reading through the thread as things were happening. Just got to the Furtado/Adams duet. She looks awesome. Honestly though, I think that even with all of the fuckups and bad omens this'll be a great set of games. I've got an idiot on my Facebook predicting terrorism and spouting off about protests. She talks about it so much its almost like she wants a OBAMA OLYMPIC BRADFORD CHOW BOMB TERRORISM OLYMPICS ANTHRAX JIHAD to happen. Its really got me resenting these anti-olympic people in a big way. |
