Was there with darthchilli, TRD604 and some other friends. Everybody was patriotic when their country came out and people would join in to cheer. I think the only time people boo'd was when the US came out but I'm sure that was done in a joking way. We started cheering when the 3 or 4 Hong Kong athletes came out and we got so many WTF looks from people :bowrofl: Beers are $4.25 for a small cup (~225ml) and you have to get a cash card for them. You preload money onto the card and use it throughout the night on everything in there (drinks/food/merchandise). They only serve Heineken and wine. No hard liquor. Smoke pit was pretty big and everybody outside was friendly and chatty. Make sure you go early because it gets packed real fast. Oh yeah, do yourself a favour and check your coat/jackets cause it gets hot in there. |

I heard there were people that couldn't compete because of doping and roids. Anyone know who these athletes are? |

Does anyone else besides me think one of the protesters vandalized the hydrolic system? |

I'm glad I'm not the only one who had this in the back of his mind. |

It was most likely some techie dropping the ball when setting up the system. The really dumb thing is they did NOT raise the torch at the dress rehearsal on Wednesday. If they did, they would've caught the error. Oh, and it's not really the torch failing. Looks like the stage failed to slide open if anything. Someone's probably going to lose his job over this. RIP to the luger. Brutal crash. No idea why they never pad the poles or build the walls higher. |
Just got back from Downtown and damn was it packed , Granville was still packed about 30 mins ago. Also had a chance to see Greztky up close during his truck ride with the flame, I have the video on my phone which I'll post later. Awesome night. |

Spent over 12 hours in downtown Friday but the battery on my camera kept crapping out. Checked out almost all of the Pavilions. Dont bother wasting your time with the lines except for Sochie/Science World as there are some pretty cute Russian women heh. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2786/...37871f17be.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2690/...4ebb785dae.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2793/...5b0ab05dd1.jpg |
In case anyone is wondering...the Olympic flame is fenced off until at least tomorrow for some reason. http://www.ededition.com/blogpics/to...y/torch-21.jpg |

4 totem poles were raised earlier. Something went wrong during the ceremony. |
Last night's ceremonies were awesome. Too bad about the one hydraulic. Just read about 15 pages - What's up with all the whiners on RS? If you don't like Natives being a part of this country you can GTFO. Seriously. |
I wonder if the native protesters feel betrayed by the natives dancers who took part in the ceremony. |

Kinda sucks for the natives who had to keep dancing while ALL the athletes came out |

Man the crowds downtown were INSANE last night. Left the bar at around 10, and made my way down Robson to granville. People were just dancing, jumping around and screaming there. i ended up on my friends shoulders with beer being spilled all over me. I can't talk anymore since my throat hurts like hell from screaming. someone kicked me in the head while he was crowdsurfing. it's all good, cept i now have a minor headache although that may be from my hangover lol. Good times! I dragged myself home and my parents looked at me and just shook their heads. I looked that bad when i got in bahahaha I must say though, i'm very impressed by the ceremonies. i especially liked the part with the orcas. The fiddler and tap dancers were amazing, and KD lang...oh my god. I thought she was a guy at first. Beautiful voice. absolutely beautiful. I teared up a bit over the Georgian luger though. At the end when they showed the video, it was my first time seeing it. Shocking accident. |
