joannie rochette skating now. she's the canadian whose mom died upon landing in vancouver to watch her daughter skate in the olympics.

hotong 02-23-2010 08:30 PM

doing pretty good so far!

seakrait 02-23-2010 08:33 PM

i hope she at least medals... that's quite a mindfuck for one's mom to die days before you have to perform perfectly in public on such a stage...

roastpuff 02-23-2010 08:33 PM

Go Joannie!

3rd right now, good stuff.

I agree, she was great in that program. I was in tears when she started crying at the end of her program.

On another note, I absolutely fell in love with Yu-Na Kim. She was spectacular in every way.

Yep, and this is her last Olympics too. Medal number 12 baby! *fingers crossed*

Ronin 02-24-2010 02:20 PM

Not just an oval record...but TWO SECONDS off the oval record. These people train for their whole lives to shave hundredths of a second off times. TWO SECONDS...that's like jumping to the top of Everest. She's amazing.

To put things into perspective...if anyone is to beat her, they have to destroy the best time ever put down on the oval. Whoever does that has to have the race of their life.

Ronin 02-24-2010 02:26 PM

HOLY SHIT. Beckert just put down a 6:51

Soundy 02-24-2010 02:27 PM

^Beckert just did it... and it's all your fault. JINX!!

It's like ruining a shutout, you don't say anything until it's done.

BRONZE!

Gh0stRider 02-24-2010 02:40 PM

woooo...Clara Hughes wins Bronze.

Ronin 02-24-2010 02:42 PM

LOL...did you really think Beckert and Sabilokova wouldn't beat her? 1 and 2 in the world...as well as the world record holder.

Plus they're 21 and 23. Hughes is 37.
