Obsideon 01-10-2012 04:47 PM

Actually... damn now that I think about it I don't doubt it's not lol!... maybe that's why it's so good ... well only the Spicy Wings anyway! :megusta:
... but they are the biggest food chain in China (yes bigger than McDonalds) and comparatively it's actually not cheap ... a bowl of noodles there is like $1.25 ... whereas a 2 piece with fries at KFC is like $6.50 ... KFC is high-end food there lol ...

I noticed they give you the shitty chicken that both has less meat and has been sitting for a while on Toonie Tuesday deals.

KFC sucks. KFC on Knight and 49th is absolutely the worst of them all.

Vale46Rossi 01-11-2012 02:48 PM

Man I love Phnom Penh's Chicken Wings.

Read this thread and was craving deep fried chicken so bad. Went to LA Chicken on Friday and then Phnom Penh on Sunday.

Didn't have my camera on me when I went to LA Chicken but their chicken was pretty good. I liked it! Ordered 3 pieces and got 4 :fullofwin:

I hear Zabu is pretty good.

donjalapeno 01-17-2012 05:52 PM

judging by the amount of extra chicken LA chicken is giving away their gonna go down under soon lol

unit 01-17-2012 06:06 PM

if you're about to go under the last thing you start doing is giving food away.
im pretty sure they're just fine.

soon

chicken is their main selling product

a peice of chicken ( lets say a upper thigh) to them roughly costs 1.20-2 bucks ( including flour, breading, eggs , spices etc). Couple posts up someone claimed they gave them 4 extra pieces so lets say each chicken costs rougly 1.50 to them. 1.50 x 4 = 6 bucks! ( equals to the price of their 2 piece combo)

and thats not calculating the labour that went into prepping the chicken and what not.

say they give out 20 peices of chicken away for free a week that equals to 120 bucks a month and in time that will definitely hurt. Judging by their prices looks as if their profit margins isnt that big either.

I doubt they got business problems - it's so low budget and lately when I've been there it's been booming with business, much more so than in years past.

In any case, my brother and I are willing to buy the place and keep it going if that's what it takes to keep their chicken flowing down our gullets.

your estimation is astronomical. i could honestly make 4 pieces of fried chicken in my home kitchen for half that price. just this week i bought a 9 pack of chicken thighs from pricesmart for $5. including breading, eggs, etc... thats still probably around $6. and im not buying in bulk from suppliers like they are.

also, they usually give extras during slower hours, because those pieces represent their surplus and included their waste calculation (every restaurant calculates about 10% for waste). its their strategy for using what would have been wasted to keep their customers loyal, and it works.

and its not like they just up and started giving away chicken last week. they've been doing it for (many) years and they're still right there.

Cassijon 01-17-2012 07:28 PM

the cost of chicken (let's say upper thigh) for a restaurant is roughly 0.25-0.60 per piece.

fliptuner 01-17-2012 07:34 PM

I get about 22 boneless, skinless thighs for $18 at Costco ($0.81/pc). With the bone in and skin on, it'll be a bit cheaper.
