If you put them at the front, you'll oversteer. If you put them at the back, you'll understeer.

So i'd say, front and back.

i posted a video showing why you should use snow tires on all 4 wheels. but, if you are forced by circumstance, put them on the rear wheels and slow down especially on corners.

So i had the replace the Van winters from Blizzaks WS50 to General Tires Altimax arctic. I read some people on here have them. Will i be disappointed?

Prolowtone 12-05-2011 03:28 AM

LOL I hate how bonded my Cherokees rims bond to the hub... an hour of hitting the tire with my BFH and BFA. I found my nice thick crowbar and stuck it through the rim wedging the claw between the drum and rim and pulled and hit it.. still nothing. I had to get a 2 foot pipe over my 3 foot crowbar and pry on it till it popped off sending me flying out the garage door hahaha. Jeep is in winter mode

I hope you broke out the wire brush and anti seize after that.

Most people in Metro Vancouver don't need winter tires.

Most people in Metro Vancouver just need to learn how to fucking drive.

The roads are pretty much just wet on Seymour, the parking lots barely have anything other then a light dusting. I went up last Wednesday so it should be the same. And I'll check back with Cypress after I return tomorrow :)

EDIT: Cypress update, it was snowing a fair amount up there. The roads down below are alright, just wet. Once I got up about 60% of the way, snow started to form on the ground and the roads were icy, touching my brakes activated my ABS and I had my rear end slip a bit on me. The overnight parking lots are covered with a dusting of snow.

Went to Big White over the weekend and tested out the German made General Tires Altimax arctic. Two words. NO PROBLEM.

Weather conditions were mixed with snow at the peak, going up slush with ice and everything in between. Didn't have a problem. While i was up there, i noticed a hand full of people running the same tires.
I am happy with my purchase.

GabAlmighty 12-21-2011 09:18 AM

My mud terrains blow when there's just a film of snow on the road, haven't tested em in the hard pack yet. But atleast I got to do some cool shit with em this weekend.

the General Altimax Arctics are my favorite winter tire right now.

I've had the XICE1, WS60, now these.

Why are they my favorite? WS60 wore 40% in a year, sure they have awesome ice grip but the Generals arent that far off.

My gf drove the generals on her car all year long, and they've barely worn. Im very happy with them.

Acura604 01-02-2012 02:54 PM

Ok. I admit it. I put my all-seasons back on. We are averaging 8-10 degrees in dec!

Anyways ill have my dedicated winters ready when we start talking consistent low temps and actual snowfall. Combo of all seasons and awd with careful driving will be good enough.

!Aznboi128 01-02-2012 02:58 PM

^ I'm seriously considering it but knowing vancouver it doesn't get cold till mid jan anyways

Matsuda 01-02-2012 03:00 PM

I've been considering it too, I may have them on for autox this weekend and after that I'll probably just keep them on

GabAlmighty 01-02-2012 03:53 PM

Mother nature is lol'ing at those switching back so soon.

We're barely two weeks into winter...

Wait until the end of this month or hit Feb and we'll probably start getting back into the cold snaps where winter tires are necessary.
