^ i do that all the time at work
especially mazda 3's

slightly off topic..but i usually change my wheels in my garage.

problem is the 2ton hydraulic floor jack was fine for my TL but does not go high enough to lift the RDX off the ground.

I only use this jack twice a year.. put winters on, take winters off so i dont need anything super fancy plus i have axle stands as backup. Stock scissor jacks are a PITA.

anyone got a lead on a model (canadian tire?) that can work a bit better for these higher CUVs/SUVs? dont feel the need to spend too much for something like this.

thanks.

If you just need a couple inches, I'd use a wood plank the size of the jack base. Just put it under the jack and change one wheel at a time. Use a jack stand as extra support just in case.

does anyone use the scissor jack that came with the car to do the changeover? Is it safe to use that or is that designed just for 'emergencies'

IMASA 11-11-2011 09:11 AM

The scissor jack is fine for tire change overs. As long as you're not going to be working under the car.

As for a tall jack for SUV's, I use the Michelin 3.5 ton jack from Crappy Tire. $99 when it's on sale. It has 21" of lift.

Go to a tire shop, ask them to mount and balance your wheels and ask them to be nice to your wheels.

Speed Syndicate for anything tricky, the other sponsors for regular sets

Locally? That's fairly decent considering they are 18"

JordanLee 11-15-2011 01:05 AM

I've got some 14inch steelies 4x100 with some Michelin Winters for sale. They're an older model and have at least 3+ seasons left on them. $200 takes it.

TypeRNammer 11-15-2011 02:23 PM

Just installed my winters a couple of days ago
