Half ass tires?

Since when are General Altimax Arctic tires half assed?

For the price I paid for my 205/55/16, I cannot justify spending an extra 300 bucks for a set of winters such as the michelin x-ice2's that I'll end up only using for three months.

I was looking for summer tires and discount tires had them for cheaper.. and they had a set of xxrs I wanted too.. Also can you ship tires to hagens?

Theyre the same company. Each one stocks slightly different tires though. Both will ship to Hagens. I shipped my Direzza DZ101s there last week. $304 landed :)

+1, Altimax Arctic are legit. Tread-wise They are copies of the very good Gislaved Nordfrost 3.

Legit, yet they copy other brands... hmm.... is it a company from china? like how they copied KFC and calls it OFC, UFC and UFO?

:suspicious: :notsureifsrs:

Continental owns both General and Gislaved... the Gislaved NordFrost 3 design is just being used in the Altimax Arctic. Gislaved carries the NordFrost 5 now.

As said above, they are both owned by Continental so the 'copy' is legitimate. General Tire itself is an American company. The Altimax Arctic are made in China, I believe. May or may not use a different rubber compound than the original NordFrost 3 but tread pattern is the same.

I know Hankook is a Korean company, but is their Ipike w409's a copy as well?

BTW, weather report says it will be close to 1 C the next few nights. Guess it is time I should put my winter tires on.

My set that I bought two years ago were made in Germany :woot:

sonick 11-02-2011 12:37 PM

^ hmm, mine are 2 years old as well, didn't check where they're made, I just assumed China coz they were relatively inexpensive. They could very well all be made in Germany.

dachinesedude 11-02-2011 12:40 PM

im using altimax arctic's too, very good winter tire

who the hell cares if its a copy or not, as long as it does it job

Acura604 11-02-2011 12:44 PM

Definitely recommend the Altimax Arctics... had them on my TL.. .was unstoppable... read the reviews.. i'd say 99% are positive.

but now...will be rocking these on the RDX SH-AWD:
(blizzak DM-V1)

but damn..do i even need winter tires on my AWD? lol...(spoken like a true over-confident all wheel drive owner)

Well in this case "copies" isn't meant to be a bad thing. Sort of like how Formula 1 technology eventually filters down to consumer road cars, the parent company Continental simply gave General Tire the technology from Gislaved when they discontinued the NordFrost 3. Still a great tire, just more affordable and easily found.

sonick 11-02-2011 01:50 PM

I am not sure, maybe I misremembered and they never were/are made in China to begin with.
