Depends on what kind of driving you're looking to do. If it's primarily city and you want a quick, cheap winter tire, get whatever fits your budget. But if you want a good long lasting tire with other benefits such as grip on ice etc, pony up the few hundred bucks and get a nicer tire. Bottom line is, winter tires make all the difference when there is snow, slush and ice as opposed to all seasons and summer performance tires.

I'm running on year-old Blizzak LM-25s and they served the previous owner well and in an environment where snow is much more prevalent. On my E30, I ran on Michelin X-Ice2s and they were awesome.

The general tires are pretty good considering it's price point.

It's good in deep snow and decent on icy roads.

I'm on the second season with these tires.

I also run the General Altimax Arctic for about 6 years now and am very happy with them. They are not a super cheap tire and the ones i have at least, are made in germany. I don't have experience with the Michelin or the Blizzak tires so i cant compare but they are far better than the canadian tire ones i had before.

Contiental makes general

Acura604 11-21-2011 12:44 PM

spoon.ek9 11-21-2011 01:06 PM

Some dude just bought my winter wheels (which I just installed on Friday). I just finished mounting my snows on my better winter wheels and have to go get them balanced now.

Wheel whore problems.

jtanner_ 11-21-2011 02:42 PM

Finally found some, jesus. Apparently BFG doesn't have any more left over for all of North America, found a shop in langley that had some in stock. Gah, that was a stressful afternoon #firstworldproblems

They do great all around. You'll like them. What size you get? White walls in or out?

trd2343 11-21-2011 06:24 PM

Is it necessary to put wheel cover or a centre cap (the little cap with the manufacture's emblem) to protect the centre bore?

fliptuner 11-21-2011 07:05 PM

No but it helps. Just make sure your hubs are clean before installing your other wheels again.

spoon.ek9 11-21-2011 08:12 PM

good video demonstrating why it's safer to use 2 snow tires in the back than in the front for FWD. i think i remember people debating this in this thread. anyways, 4 winter tires will be safer than 2 in any case.

also a comparison between all-seasons and snow tires in actually snowy conditions.

alex.w *// 11-21-2011 09:41 PM

^ what is the point in putting snow tires in the back if you have no traction to pull the car forward in the snow.

spoon.ek9 11-21-2011 10:03 PM

well, as the video demonstrates, you won't fish tail and spin out of control with them in the back.

fliptuner 11-21-2011 10:20 PM

In the corners, they were still driving too fast for the conditions and accelerating through, instead of braking straight and accelerating after the apex. Of course 4 snow tires is best but nothing beats good driving and awareness.

I don't know man, with Lower Mainland drivers, all they got is snow tires :heckno:

fliptuner 11-22-2011 07:16 AM

And a lot of them don't even have that......

MindBomber 11-22-2011 07:32 AM

If I could only afford two snow tires for my civic, they'd go on the front, without question. Although the conservative safety concious approach would be to put them on the rear, and thus greatly reducing the risk of spinning out in a corner if you approach to quickly, having no traction on the front tires is hardly safe either. With no traction on the drive wheels you can get stuck in a bad spot or spin out going up hill.

Like Fliptuner said, it comes down to good driving sense.

33x12.5R15. Not sure what you mean by what walls in or out though?

fliptuner 11-22-2011 07:44 AM

Exactly. I don't know how many of you guys do this but after the first real snowfall and the next day when there's a layer of ice underneath, I take my car to about 60-70 on an empty road and just slam on the brakes, just to see how it reacts. Then I go into a big empty lot for some slalom action and play around with the ebrake on my car (I also have a 4x4 truck). Sure it's fun but I want to know what to expect if I'm ever in that situation in traffic/around other cars/people. I'm sure if more people spent half an hour "practicing", the roads would ba a lot safer.

He's talking about the lettering. You know, like when you see soccer mom's in their SUV's and the RF tire has a white circle around it cause she wore the first layer of rubber off, using it as a curb feeler.....

GG 11-22-2011 07:58 AM

snow tires once they are down to 50%, u are losing a lot of traction. Hydroplaning, super slippery even with slightest of snow on the ground

I'd rather be stuck from the get-go than to slide sideways out of control into an intersection. :heckno:

Got some used snow tires earlier and I just put them on but..I think I put it in the wrong direction. I put this one in the rear driver side...
anyone know if this is right

I am thinking this should've gone on the passenger side instead

fliptuner 11-22-2011 11:38 AM

:heckno::seriously:

It's ok though. Cause it'll be the right direction when you back up.

CRS 11-22-2011 11:40 AM

Just put my 4 x-ice 2s on today.

:fuckyea:
