Anything below 4/32nds tread is no good.

!LittleDragon 11-04-2010 01:14 PM

Last year was my 3rd season and my grip was crap for the whole 1" of snow we got last year. Nowhere near as good a grip as the first season. Got new rear tires this year.

Mugen EvOlutioN 11-04-2010 03:13 PM

Ya my rear has like 40 percent left while the front has about 70
Thinkn replacing the rear or not

If anyone here is looking to buy winter tires, I would recommend Bridgestone Blizzak.

Mugen EvOlutioN 11-05-2010 01:01 PM

Continental winter contact ftw

Initial Review, 14,000 Miles on Tires

These tires have been a major disappointment. They have only been used during a six month Wyoming winter, for about 14,000 miles, and most of the tread is gone. I'm going back to Blizzaks.

hirevtuner 11-05-2010 03:03 PM

i'm gonna put them on next week, temperature should be about that time

dunlop graspics DS-2 3rd winter still plenty of tread left

bloodmack 11-05-2010 03:14 PM

ummm dude whats the average tread life on snow tires?

i would say average 20k to 30k sounds about right

a lot of high end vehicles uses their tires, porsche as one. have you seen their ultra all season DWS as well as max performance summer tires DW category?

lots ppl uses their general tires line up as well because its cheaper and decent performance

tirerack ranked them no.1

so i dunno wtf u are talking about, noob

Gh0stRider 11-05-2010 05:03 PM

still early...i'll wait another 1.5 weeks

spoon.ek9 11-05-2010 05:06 PM

i had my snow tires on for a single day while i had my tires mounted to a new set of rims :D

i guess i'll wait another week or so before slapping on my new 15" winters (michelin x-ice 195-50-15)

GabAlmighty 11-05-2010 09:53 PM

Will be rocking (on the front atleast) my 18 year old tires with 153xxx km's on them for the winter...

Death2Theft 11-05-2010 10:58 PM

nothing wrong with that.

you honestly only need snow tires if it's really really cold or heavily snowing aroud here.

been using all-season tires on all cars in the past years and they've done just fine in rain/snow/cold icey conditions... just gotta drive more carefull, simple as that.

spoon.ek9 11-06-2010 09:06 AM

^ i felt the same way previously but that was before i tried snow tires for the first time last year. i'm never going back to all-seasons during winter again lol. sure, you can make it around but the difference between snow tires and all-seasons (whether there's snow or not) is HUGE.

What_the? 11-06-2010 09:10 AM

still waiting for avg under 7 degrees weather... soon the general altimax arctics will go on :D

Jayhall 11-06-2010 06:08 PM

it doesnt really matter for me as I daily a tacoma, but I take the m/t's off when it starts raining a lot. Winter tires arn't just for ice and snow, they also perform very well in wet road conditions.

Energy 11-06-2010 06:38 PM

Maybe 1-2 more weeks until I switch at the rate this weather is changing..

CRS 11-06-2010 09:08 PM

Its been pretty cold lately.

If that is any indication for this winter, I think an ideal time is about 2 weeks away.

Acura604 11-06-2010 09:23 PM

the 08 TL stock michelinsd were useless in 2008.. i invested in a set 16" general altimax arctics...didnt have much of a chance to test them last year but with the snow we had, i did get out and wow, they were unstoppable... looking forward to using them this year.. but not gonna bother slapping them on till dec.
