http://www.news1130.com/article/print/131456 Accident without winter tires could hike premiums But ICBC says it shouldn't void your insurance * Tamara Slobogean/Vancouver Sun * 2010/11/19 VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - ICBC has a reminder, and a warning, if you plan on driving in the snow this season. If you do crash while trying to negotiate slushy or snowy streets, your car better have the right gear. If it turns out you're more than 25 per cent to blame for an accident on wintery roads, you can expect to pay the price with your insurance premiums. That's something it seems few are aware of on Vancouver streets. A woman tells us, "I did not know that, I wasn't aware of it. But luckily, my husband is on the ball and I have snow tires." Another person says, "I'll think more before I go driving down the hill... But I see people driving past me; I drive no faster than I can slide." ICBC tells the Vancouver Sun driving without the right winter tires may not be the smartest move, but ultimately it won't affect your ability to make a claim, and shouldn't void your insurance. |
Thanks for the article. I heard about it before but its a good reminder. |

I got mine on Tuesday installed and ready if needed. For once I did something ahead of time and I am prepared. Even if you have to be there at 7am just keep in mind that Tim's is open as well for a yummy breakfast. ;) |

good to know but just a fyi even with winter tires, you still have to drive carefully. I test it on SFU yesterday where there was a 45 degree hill, even driving 20km and slamming on the brake (simulate emergency situation) and i still felt hopeless kept sliding and ABS pumping like mad |
^ yes drive slow guys. Just got back from driving gf to sfu its getting worse up there :/ one of the scariest drives I've done so far. Slow down and be careful! Posted via RS Mobile |
ya totally, snow tires help but still need to drive slow and use common sense. Snow tires in winter does not equal slicks in summer time |

Maybe less Slamming on your brakes as in an emergency situation and more applying even pressure would be a good idea ;) |
97% ppl do panic under emergency situation like a pedestrian flying down the road all of a sudden or a raccoon or deer decides to take a walk |
Remember people with snow tires its not how fast you can go.. Its all about the stopping distance.. Snow tires help but they can fail over a patch of ice on u instantly... I remember one time driving my beater on the #1 hwy and saw this 4x4 suv ripping past me... Well about 5 mins later down the road at the bend guess who was in the ditch... The guy did have snow tires but because of speed and the turn he lost control and went into the ditch... |
Woo thanks guys! Don't think I will put snow tires on the Forester mm just need to be careful. |

^ ready to pull semi trucks out the snow? |

put mine on this afternoon, goodbye rims... until spring :( |
Every time I login, I see a post that reminds me how much I want a Subaru. They got lucky with that bumper, it didn't even look cracked. |
Okay, I caved. I went out tonight and bought snow tires and rims. :( Just as well because driving down my street a few minutes ago and almost crashing into a car pulling into my driveway made me realize just how bad my all seasons are. :lol |
Winter tires: best investment ever. Coming home from DT tonight and it was snowing hard and my car was really easy to control, just had to be a bit more aware of surroundings. Not bad for a light, rwd, no traction control car. |
