Apple used the original dock connector for 5 generations. We've been using the Lightning cable for about 5 generations as well.
They will probably changing it to USB-C next year.. hopefully..

Hopefully - and hopefully its the the actual usb 3.1 or faster implementation, and not a slower port implementation like the one plus.

Isn't Apple supposed to simplify things? There's so many dongles with their new products it's hard to keep up. Now they are using USB C yet the iPhone they just released isn't... Gonna hold onto my MB Air for awhile.

Pretty sure you're gonna get a lightning to usb C cable released soon, or they move to USB-C on the iPhone (i think unlikely, but i wish they would). I'm holding onto my Air for now, but my friend that has the 12 inch MacBook hasn't really noticed much of a difference, mind you, he does the wireless sync of his iPhone 6.

All my external HDD & input devices are connected to the hubs along with bluetooth audio into a stereo system to cut down on plugging a aux into my Mac.
Here's what my setup looks like now for home which I mainly use for video/photo editing:

It was a Touch of Modern sale. I think I paid $120USD for it. It's fully aluminum so it matches the Apple industrial theme.

When I'm working:
Magsafe
2x External monitors
Pok3r keyboard
g500 (used to use a Magic Mouse but decided to go back to wired)
Headphones
Recently just got a hub for my USB devices so that reduced it to just 1. But pretty much all ports are used up except for the HDMI.

I really want to swap my 2013 Macbook Pro Retina 13" (8gb) for a 12" Macbook.
I know the processor isn't comparable but I need something more versatile for work. Word processing and web browsing is really all I do. Think I'll regret this move?

If you're used to using all your ports on your MBP, then you'll have to dongle your life with a one port MB 12".

My friend just did the exact same switch a month ago - he says its a good move for him, and he has the same usage patterns as you've described. He just came back from a two week trip to Japan with the MacBook 12 and he says he lasted the whole flight there (9 hours) just watching movings on it. Quote:

I use my MB 12 as my primary machine (it replaced my previous gen MBP 13 Retina, which I still have). If maximum lightness is important, then the MB 12 is an excellent machine. I went with it as I take my computer almost everywhere I go.
For word processing and web browsing, you'll be more than fine. The machine may feel a touch slower when you're opening programs or doing anything somewhat intensive, but the SSD is faster, which helps to mitigate things somewhat.
Lastly, note that the base MB 12 is a touch slower than middle tier MB 12. (Whereas with the MBP, generally the difference between the base and middle config is just the amount of storage space.) For my uses, I found the middle tier MB 12 to be deal, as it uses a slightly faster processor and has a 512 ssd.

2011 macbook air battery status says "replace now". It doesn't hold a charge and can only be used while plugged in.
Suggestions on where to get it fixed? DIY or Apple store?

If yours is a 2011 13" go here: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook...placement/6359
Check prices at Apple Store too. It might be cheaper and you also get better warranty on the battery.

I heard there is a delay on the higher end GPU thats why yours is probably processing.
I didn't want the GPU, just SSD upgrade.
Edit: Nov 16th Delivery date but I think its China time because it said shipped on Nov 13th when it was Nov 12th.
Might be earlier if its direct to Vancouver, I ordered a macbook before it went to china to california then trucked to vancouver.......
