I heard that they have some graphic problems with horizontal lines and such... | Considering you can get a 13" MBA for under 1k, I don't think it's worth it.
The Ivy bridge is much faster/efficient.

That computer is going on 3 years old... I would try to get it for less. With the newer chipsets, screens, and flash storage I see nothing "pro" about the MacBook Pro. The current offering is only around for the large education market but will be retired later this year.
I almost never the the optical drive in mine, the conventional hard drive is slow (you will probably want to pop in an SSD), and the screen resolution is low compared to the 13" Air or really low compared to the 13" Retina. Check out Apples refurbs, good deals, stock always changing. I've purchased 3 and they have all been in tip top shape with warranty. I'd have offered $600...but since you offered $650 and he accepted, you either buy at that price or walk away. I don't think i could go back to the guy and ask for another $50 off without feeling like a douche.

Wondering if someone can help with some advice on this.
I have a late 2013 MBP 13".
I'm looking to connect it to an external dell monitor that has dvi/svga connections only and use the external monitor as an extended display.
Am I suppose to connect the monitor via a DVI to mini display port (via thunderbolt) - first image
Or do i simply get one of these DVI/HDMI adapters and connect it to the HDMI slot on the MBP? - second image
Is there a difference? is one way better than the other?
Thanks!

Check out Apples refurbs, good deals, stock always changing. I've purchased 3 and they have all been in tip top shape with warranty. | For what it's worth, I liked my mid-2012 13" MBP quite a bit, but LOVE my 13" Retina. While the screen does have a few compromises once in awhile (web graphics on non optimized websites most specifically), for my purposes which involve a lot of text and a lot of high resolution photo editing, the screen is beautiful. I take mine everywhere with me and the CD drive hasn't ever been missed, but the half pound or so weight improvement is always appreciated.
I just bought an 11" Macbook Air to take backpacking with me yesterday and when I first fired it up, I was so upset with how poor the screen was, I almost packed it up and sent it back. I did some Googling and ended up with a screen calibration that made a HUGE improvement - the factory colours were absolutely washed out and hugely deficient on contrast, I can't even begin to describe how much happier I am after spending 10 minutes downloading and installing the new calibration.

Might have been discussed before but might give this a shot.
Looking to upgrade my SSD on my macbook-r. Been researching a couple products such as OWC Aura and Transcend Jetdrive. Just wondering if anyone has done this locally before and whereabouts?
I do understand there are youtube videos and such but I'd prefer to get this done professionally.
Hopefully someone could chime in on preferred brands or share your experience/input with upgrading your SSD.
TIA

just beware that apple uses their own ssd connectors, i believe OWC is the only company that makes a SSD that is apple compatible. not just any msata drive will work

But they are not compatible with the current MBP/MBAs as they have shifted to PCI-E SSDs.

Has anyone upgraded to Yosemite?
I was on the testing but was bothered by the little bugs here and there (some stability issue). Would like to know if it has been corrected before hitting the "continue"

Depending on what issues you encountered. I have, it is decent on my Retina and MBA. Quote:

Any reputable places like MacStation etc will do it for you. It is not that hard. Quote:

Make sure you clear the iCloud data if you have other devices. the SSIDs + passwords get shared between devices. Quote:

Keep the Console window open when you see a drop event.. just mark the messages under All Messages say. It will at least tell you if it is your AP or hardware or something else.

Well I assumed the OP had problems with SSID all over the place, hence the suggestion.. I did upgrade to Yosemite on my 27" but clean install on my Retina and MBA.. either works fine without clearing the SSID data from my iCloud. Quote:

^ figured out the problem.
Yosemite doesnt work well on 5GHz band. Switched the router to strictly 2.4 and it works fine for now.
Apple needs to fix this.

Upgraded to Yosemite last night. So far so good. Very stable.
Haven't experienced any problem with 5Ghz wifi either. This is 2013 rMBP connecting to Time Capsule over 802.11AC.
Anyone getting the 5k iMac or maybe current Mac Pro owners? I'm giving my rMBP to my brother when I meet him on my next trip and planning to switch to desktop. No sure whether to get 5k iMac or a Mac Pro.
