Just got back from Lee's Donuts. I take it back the donuts are decent......... for half price. I couldn't resist the reduced day old's.

A bag of 24 donut holes for $10.00. They had chocolate a glazed donuts, but its way too much for me. Although can be frozen.

Traum 09-30-2025 08:20 PM

Half priced day old donuts?! Bag of 24 for $10?!

When do they have this? As in, what time of day is the best time to go to pick this up?

(I can't help the cheap Chinese in me from surfacing on opportunities like this.)

whitev70r 09-30-2025 09:08 PM

^ there is an app, Too Good to Go. I think Lee's donuts are on there. You can get other deals through that app as well. The BEST, bar none, is Breka when they have day olds. For like $7, you get 2 loaves of their sourdough bread, 4 of their random baked goods.

I went at 5 pm............. about ten bags left.

On a side note, I see Breka mentioned here and there on r/Vancouver.......... you know, the one with sunsets posted everywhere

Good recipe to use for frozen/old donuts, pan fry the donut and put ice cream on it:

Then complete the picture by making it an affogoto. Dark Roast espresso. Depending on volume, a double shot. Add garnish (whipped cream, shaved chocolate, nuts, even a bit of Baileys). Skip the ice cream in pan idea. Place ice cream on top of fried doughnut. Then the espresso.

I grabbed some donuts on Sunday from Fox & Oak in Squamish on my way back from a cabin trip up to Lillooet Lake, man they weren't as good as earlier in the year.

These new donut places man, they start off amazing, then slowly start to drop off. Lucky's, Cartems were also guilty of doing that.

whitev70r 10-01-2025 11:30 AM

^ now that you mentioned it. 2nd time for me was good but yah, not as good as 1st time ... is it because the first time, I was like wow ... and then my expectation 2nd time was high?

Or, is it due their own success ... they are so popular and busy now that they have to make like thousands of them and quality control goes down?

mikemhg 10-01-2025 01:41 PM

Either that, or as time goes on they start to slack on the quality of ingredients for profit margins?

The old classic drug dealer switcheroo -- sell the good stuff at first at a loss, get you hooked, then sell you the cheap stuff.

6793026 10-01-2025 01:59 PM

Lucky's has always been stable for me. Creme brulee PB&J were always good.
Cartem.. didnt' they go by bye
wait.. yes Permanently closed Feb 14

so back to Canada Post.

TUrns out the CEO sits on Canada Post and also Puro, taking bonuses on both sides.

in 2024, they asked gov't for 1 billion repayable loan and then Puro acquired (900M) Livingston - does customs clearing.

How does CP own 65% share of market when it pushes business down to Puro and now down to 20-30% market share.

again, this was from a radio show - will fact check - on what the media WON'T report on etc.

He blames all these as stupid corp greed who looks as spreadsheets. It's a mgmt issue and not a pure front line benefits issue.

Doughnut Love (Coquitlam) -- Good
Sweet Talk (Port Moody) -- So/so
Yum Gourmet (New West)
Punk Rock Pastries (Burnaby) -- Sucks too sweet and gimmicky donuts.
Mello (Chinatown/Gastown) -- These aren't donuts IMHO
Neate (downtown)
Their There (kits) -- Great cookies, haven't tried the donuts
Oohlala (kits)
Lucky's (several locations) -- Good
Honeys (Deep Cove) -- So/so
Cream Pony (North Van) -- Good
Harmony (North Van) -- Good
Gourmet donuts (Langley) -- Similar to Duffins (decent)
Goldies (horseshoe Bay, on the way to Squamish) -- Not real donuts, like Mello
Fox & Oak (Squamish) -- Good (but slacking lately)
Sunflower Bakery (Squamish)
Vegas Donuts (East Vancouver)
Outpost Mini Donut Company (Steveston)
Duffin's & Lee's -- Probably the top ones.

If you guys want a dope chocolate cookie go to harvest community foods.
It’s a $5 cookie, so I’m sure some people will be mad, but it’s huge and it’s insanely good. I’d rather pay $5 for one cookie every couple weeks than buy 10 for $10

Badhobz 10-02-2025 07:56 PM

5 dollars a stinking cockie!?!!??! WHAT THE HELL KINDA socialist community food place is this!? does a lesbian come out and queef on it ?

Traum 10-02-2025 08:15 PM

Purolator is owned by Canada Post though -- CP has a 91% share ownership of it. Does this mean CP gets a 91% cut on Purolator's revenues? I dunno, but Purolator is able to turn in some positive earnings, that has to be good news for CP as well, right?

I am not familiar enough with what Canada Post's business directions are, but Purolator spending big $$$ to acquire Livingston is a talking point that the CP union rep had used as a talking point to criticize CP. Supposedly, the acquisition was done for an undisclosed amount, but union rep was saying CP used the $1B that the federal gov had given it to conduct the acquisition, when they should have spent that money on restructuring their business and on the postal workers.

It's the Lambo of cookies!

Badhobz 10-02-2025 08:25 PM

psssh, Lambos have some semblance of class. This is clearly the porsche of cookies.

westopher 10-02-2025 09:07 PM

Lambo and class being mentioned shows why garbage disposal hobz need not try this cookie.

The difference with Purolator and CP is that Purolator operates independently from CP and they focus primarily on the business segment. The acquisition of Linvgstone is strategic in part to grow their scalability and access to global routes, enabling growth in other business segments. On the other hand, CP caters to all segments, residential/consumer, business, and enterprise. CP is a "one size fits all" solution and the residential segment hurts its revenues.

it doesn't help when Puro has been pivoting asking people to move over from CP to Puro... freaking corp greed....

The purpose of a corporation is to maximize shareholder value! :)
