dlo 10-21-2011 01:18 PM

working your abs 4-5 days wont necessary help you, your muscles needs days to rest

hal0g0dv2 10-21-2011 01:25 PM

what he said

Berzerker 10-21-2011 02:01 PM

I don't work abs ever. If your lifting heavy on many things your abs get a workout anyways stabilizing your core.

Berz out.

Powerslide 10-21-2011 02:16 PM

I'm with Berz, although I do an ab routine about once a week.

In the past when I've gone heavy on deadlifts, I found that proportionally my lower back got much stronger than the abs and it was starting to cause instability in my lifts. Had to compensate a bit, dont completely ignore your abs

quick question: anyone else here working on a modified paleo-type diet? I've been getting good results

MarkyMark 10-21-2011 02:21 PM

I do them a few days a week but it's usually like 5-10 mins at the end of my workout cause I'm not trying to kill them like I do with my other workouts

I know a lot of you guys say never work abs as your abs get worked when you're doing deadlifts/squats etc, but you don't get abs like greg plitt by not targeting your abs directly.

hotong 10-21-2011 02:32 PM

i never do abs lol

Phozy 10-21-2011 02:50 PM

I find it soo hard to progress at squats.

Fcukedd 10-21-2011 02:54 PM

I did 5x5 ONLY on squats for about 7 months (started right when I first went to the gym).

Went from squatting 115lbs to 245lb 5x5.

Currently at about 285 5x5. Haven't really gone up for 3 months now lol starting to concentrate more on legs again.

Add in 1 leg lunge squats (other leg supported by bosu, flat side down) at lower weight, as well as box jumps. Work your way up to 24" box jumps.

Also, alternate every few squat sessions to *front* squats (bar resting on collarbone at front, top of the barbell-clean position)

That should at least vary things a bit, might help you through the plateau. It worked for me.

This is a front squat not a hack squat.

hx2gls 10-21-2011 03:55 PM

linear progression feels so good

When you stall, change up your exercise line-up or work on your weak points on the lift.

are you srs? Do NOT go back into the gym next week, see a doctor. If you herniated a disc it's a big deal - get it looked at

I do 1 ab exercise every time I workout. Not because it'll get me hawt abzzzzz, but because I do total body training, and abs are a part of it.

Did cleans yesterday, wow this is a nice kinda sore :sweetjesus:

RRxtar 10-21-2011 06:43 PM

not that I question your doctor / chiropractor but how did they determine the level of injury ?

I have a torn and herniated disc and it's no fun. Took me 8+ months on a wait list for a MRI for the doctor to figure it out.

What is your current back movement / mobility like ?

Anti-inflammatories won't do nothing for you.
