Don't be a pussy, I do deadlifts at the end of my workout and that is over an hour fasted, and all compound work, none of that pussy isolation stuff :troll:

alwayslive 03-26-2012 09:18 PM

should I just drop all of my isos then?
I just feel like I get more of a pump with them but will I gain more mass when i drop em?

SkinnyPupp 03-26-2012 09:36 PM

If you're working out for a pump and only a pump by all means keep doing it :troll:

There are plenty of good posts in this thread, read through em. I'm not the biggest or strongest guy here so maybe I'm not the right one to listen to.

Phozy 03-26-2012 09:39 PM

regarding pump and fatigue...

AutozamAZ-3 03-26-2012 09:45 PM

Pumps dont nessesarily mean you're gaining size. Sure there great that motivation, and me gustas in the mirror, but compounds are the best because they activate more CNS, thus more testosterone production. Don't stop doing isolations though, but do them at the end rather. I find isolations are are great for touching up on weak areas.

FYI the reason why isolations produce better pumps is because the blood is rushing to the isolated muscle because that's all that's being worked in that movement ;)

SkinnyPupp 03-26-2012 09:49 PM

Of course this all relates to natural building. The rules are different for steroid users who need dat pump to stretch out the fascia to let their muscles grow

If you're trying to gain overall mass to your body, you want to do compounds because they're multi-jointed exercises and activate and recruit alot more muscles in your body. Sure they're alot harder, but you're working alot more muscles per rep than you would with isolation exercises. In other words, you're working the big muscles of your body, which will give you the appearance of bigger muscles overall. I find that with compound exercises, I won't have to worry about one group of muscles that tend to be overworked and some that aren't worked enough. With compound exercises, I know I'll be getting the full package regardless.

alwayslive 03-26-2012 09:54 PM

what other exercises should I do besides the ones listed? I feel like I need to "shock" my body cause I've been doing this routine for a few weeks

edit: so I should stick to compounds right? sorry for the lack of resposes to all of the things that you guys have said, I'm just quite confused aha

Compound movements first then do the isolations at the end, all sets to failure.

Why do you need to "shock"? As long you are lifting more each week and gaining size, that's good enough. I'm not a fan of this whole muscle confusion stuff p90x has started. Lift mid range, do your compounds and EAT SLEEP. Bodybuilding is simple.

First time back in the gym after recovering from tonsillitis. Two weeks of not eating enough and rest..

I personally found a lot more gains once I did compounds and ATE more. Once I got a rough estimate of how many maintenance calories a day I needed, I started adding a few hundred extra calories a day and went from there. I'm by no means a big person (133lbs in Sept to 147lbs as of tonight), but this might give you some insight.

Look at a bodybuilder
Look at a strongman/powerlifter
Then look at how they train and how they look,
Ppl will tell you oh just do deadlifts and bench and squats and. U will get huge. Yes you will get big but you are not going to look that good vs someone who does a bb split. And you can't tell me Ppl just go to the gym and do those 3 lifts and leave. They will throw in some other isolation exercises to get the pump / better look.

Yes but imo to do ONLY isolations as a natural lifter is a horrible idea

Big ups to truth for the spots again tonight. With out his help I'd still be stuck doing lower weight for reps and not gaining nearly as fast. Was able to rep 95 dumbbells on incline bench today for the first time in about 2 years, and the first time since my injury. Thanks dude.

I feel bloated as hell with how much I'm eating but took some pics anyway. 199.5lbs...

AutozamAZ-3 03-27-2012 01:38 AM

Since we're on the topic of iso vs comp, anyone of you guys add pre exhaust to your routines?
