pretty much, exactly what graeme said.

when i signed up, the rep made sure to inform me about what settings to do to stay on the home network.

i dont know if theres any way to do the settings i did (nexus s, and galaxy nexus here) since you're on a blackberry, but make sure its set to 3g only and you're pretty much good to go.

I'm not too sure how it works, judging by Graeme's post its usually on 2G after I pass a certain spot on Highway 1 going into Chilliwack.

I usually still read my BBMs just out of habit, but are unable to send back because the data would be disabled. But the BBM I'm reading wouldve been received while I was still in the Wind zone.

Never bothered to call in to have 4 cents waived off my bill.

2G, GSM. This (in Canada) is "wind away". That means that while you can connect to it as a wind network, you will be paying per minute and per kilobyte for all charges.

I'll be honest. If you spend enough time out of wind home zones, it is most likely not worth it to switch to wind. If you switch to 2G to save batteries, you will spend a fortune in texting and calling (15c/min, 15c/text, if I remember correctly).
thanks for clearing that up.

i will most likely be running a blackberry 9790. ill mostly be in vancouver/richmond/burnaby but most vancouver so i think i should be in their zone.

if i set the berry to 3g only ill never have to worry about roaming period i take it?

i wasnt sure if Windtab is optional on the plan

when i signed up with Wind i got the $29 unlimited and voicemail for $8.. i figured the voicemail would be important for me for those places that my reception will just go flat line

the sales person just told me that they subtracting $200 off from my phone for the windtab and payed $500+ on the S3

so far in the 4 days i have been with Wind, i am overall satisfied.... like i said you get what you paid for.. just the odd reception on some indoors
havent encountered those delayed text messages yet

its the S3 thats getting me bummed out because of the shitty battery life... and that coming from the iphone 4

you should have got the $40 plan it includes vm + u.s. calling and you would have got $400 off on windtab versus the $200. and yes tab is definitely optional.

I love my $29 plan.

Unlimited North America call/pic msg
Unlimited worldwide texting
Unlimited data

Glad I'm an early adopter.

Yep. It was a $29 discount (supposed to be for one year) for the old $45 plan (it had everything above), but then they just sent me a text last month that the price had become permanent.

Win.

If you ever get a call while you're not getting signal, you also get a 'missed call' text.

"Hi, I tried to call you!
604-555-1234 (1:25AM)"

Kind of thing. So if it's just for missed calls...not really a big deal. Works for if you've got no reception or if you turn off your phone. Same deal, really.

I switched because my contract had just expired with Rogers, and I was still going to save about $40/mo even with the $45/mo. I looked at what I was paying and what I was getting and went "fuck it".

I also was thinking about moving down to the lower price point once the promo was over, 'cause I barely use some of the stuff I've got...but here I am. Winsauce.

so are most guys getting a phone on windtab or buying their phones outright?

i'd like to use windtab but just a little concerned about being locked in like a contract, which is fine if service is good though.

I got my phone outright (CL, like new Gnex, $350). Why? Because it was basically the same as a windtab, and then I didn't have any obligation.

Windtab applies 10% of your bill before tax ($29+8=36x.1=$3.60) each month towards the amount that you received as a discount. So if you get a $400 windtab and decide to cancel after 35 months, you'd have to pay $274 (35x3.6=$126, $400-$126=$274). If you cancel after 3 years (36 months), you pay nothing.

It's a discount that gets reduced monthly and then wiped clean after three years. It's like a term contract but not and yet so much the same.

I love my phone and if someone were to buy a gnex I'd say get it outright, no reason to buy on a discount. GS3, maybe a different story.

the phone i would most likely get would be the bold 9790 it is $399 outright but $199 on the $29 windtab. so if i were to cancel after say 1 year how much i owe?

24 months remaining X %10 of my bill $2.90 =69.60. $200 - 69.60 = 130.40? is that right or did i mess it up?

No, you're doing it backwards.

$200 discount
$2.9x12=34.8

200-34.8=$165.20 that you still owe.

You owe them $200. And every month, they cut that debt by $2.90. At the end of three years, no matter what you owe, they wipe the slate clean.

ahh okay i got it now.

so basically how ever many months i am with them i get the $2.90 off, tally that up and deduct from the windtab balance which in this case would be $200.

so in this case it would never be too costly to jump ship, the most it would ever cost would be $200 if im following everything correctly.

i got the windtab. got the nexus s which at the time was 380 or $0 on wind tab. i don't plan on leaving wind as i have nothing but positive feedback on the service so it was a winning decision for me
