Exactly. I want to see engineers trying to outsmart and out develop everyone with each teams having unlimited budgets, engines, gearboxes and tires. This is suppose to be F1, the pinnacle of Motor Sports, let the teams do whatever the fuck they want, if you want to spend 600mil+ to win, sure. If you want to spend 50mil, sure.

Fuck the engines, bring back V8/V12 and let them put whatever they want in.

Great68 05-29-2012 04:16 PM

Yeah, F1 has never been a peasant sport. You gotta pay to play.
Everytime I hear the FIA making changes to lower "development costs" I cringe. I think "Yay! Slower Cars!"

The fastest cars were around 2004, and they've gone downhill since.

Vancouver240sx 05-29-2012 04:48 PM

I think today's F1 cars are still monumentally fast and take just as much commitment and driver involvement as the 2004 cars.

However, we only get to see the cars pushed like that in qualifying. During the race we are just seeing drivers hitting time delta's to keep the tires in shape.

The races don't seem to be won by the fastest drivers, just the driver/team who's setup and tire assumptions were most right that day.

A perfect example is this weekend of monaco. In FP1 and FP2 the two Lotus looked untouchable. By qualifying, they looked out to sea. Drivers skill has been mired in tire conservation.

Anyone watch the Indy 500? I'm not much of a roundy round guy but it was quite the eventful race. More passing than a current F1 race... lol.

I loved the dive bomb into the 3rd last corner by Sato.

I agree. If we were looking at outright car performance I think Lotus, Williams and Mercedes are at the top right now and would be on the podium if they were running the cars flat out.

Does anyone want to try to organize an Austin F1 trip...? None of my friends are into F1 and I don't think I want to watch it by myself...

Good race. Overall very enjoyable experience, here's a few photos from the track:

Here's the Porsche that made those tracks through the grass at T1, could've been big had there been cars when he re-entered the track:

That wasnt even half of them.

Best thing about the weekend was meeting team Ferrari & Team Sauber last night. Went to meet my buddy at his hotel (Delta) and they were all outside the lobby smoking and chilling outside.

Just the Pit crews, the drivers weren't hanging out with them unfortunately.

^^^^ the news was saying that there weren't any "fancy car meets" or a general festive nature at all this year in Montreal due to the student protests

by your pic i guess that's not entirely true :)

Yeah the news blew things way out of proportion, it wasn't true at ALL. The regular street festivities were all going on, with extra security and police presence for sure.

I didn't even see any protesters until just last night as we were walking back to our hotel and they were coming up our street. A few flashbangs got them to change direction.

The DRS wasn't a huge contributing factor considering that it was Hamilton's fresh tires which gave him the massage advantage. He was going around Alonso sooner or later.

Ferrari gambled, they lost.
