The nightmarket near homedepot opened a week before the RR nightmarket and it was packed while vendors were doing really well. When RR nightmarket opened, all the attention went to RR location. What can they do, Better location, easy access and more vendors.

Im not sure if RR nightmarket will be forever and years to come, because City of Richmond did purpose to transform that location into some massive shopping hotel centre.

But if RR nightmarket will be there next year, I doubt any vendors want to rent at homedepot nightmarket. Pretty much they will forced to close the year after then thew RR nightmarket founder will then take over that location. When the City of Richmond takes the RR location back for developing the shopping centre

i went to nite market for the first time in 2012 a couple weeks back... to the old location. everything was bumping but i saw something that sorta ruined my night. my friends and i were in this huge lineup for the tornado potaters. I looked around and noticed that next to the potater stand was this small stand which a black guy had opened. he was selling chinese food. you could clearly see the difference on how well the the stand / food was presented, and well... the difference on how many customers each stand pulled. The whole time i was lining up i couldn't help but feel sorry for the guy. he had no customers whatsoever, whereas the tornado potater stand's customers pretty much lined up right infront of his stand, completely blocking his stand out of sight.

i believe it was a bad choice for him to invest in a night market stand selling CHINESE food. not trying to be racist here but do you think the traditional chinese people, or even the westerners would buy CHINESE food from a BLACK guy in a CHINESE night market? i went a couple weeks after to see if he was still there and lo and behold, his stand was gone.. :okay:

Yea I feel bad for those people who rent for a stand, but didn't receive much customers.

In the old night market, there is an Indian stand that sells curry chicken etc.. The curry chicken is probably good, but just not nightmarket type of food.

Also, there is a chicken teriyaki stand where this time, two Chinese guy were selling, yet not one goes. I heard the guy yell, Teriyaki! Teriyaki! Teriyaki! yet no one wants it

People think they can just have a stand, and customers will come to you. Thats not true.

You could go to a food court in any mall and get teriyaki. People who buy food at these events want something that will give them an unique experience.

I always get those fish shaped waffles because you can't get them anywhere else.

You can buy them year-round in Hannam (Korean supermarket) on North Road.

I might consider popping up a stand next year ... got some funky neat ideas to toy with in my head ... but it's just a sparkle of a thought for now haha ... we'll see if I have time to get away from the restaurant along with my executive chef ...

The ones that used to sell it at nightmarket have their cart outside Hannam.
Not sure if current nightmarket business is related as I haven't gone in the last 2 years.

Traffic

Hi,

I just had a question to anyone that has been to the night market on a Sunday recently. I'm planning on going to the casino for dinner at 7pm and was wondering what the traffic is like around that area heading to the casino parking. I was hoping things have improved but any input would be appreciated. Thanks

JL

It's pissing rain I assume that the NM is pretty quiet on nights like these ... maybe a lot of vendors aren't even open?

back when I worked the nightmarket, there was a clause in the agreement that said you must pay the day's rent if you choose to not open. basically, it's a lose-lose situation. don't open? pay up. show up on shitty weather day? hardly any business and you're stuck outside in the cold rain.

Verdasco 06-23-2012 06:12 AM

thinking of opening up a nightmarket next year... maybe just dim sum but with young adults working there :troll: any tips on opening one? i know some ppl who opened it 3 years ago but quit to due being busy all the time :/

Energy 06-23-2012 10:08 AM

Isn't being busy all the time good? Just hire more people then.

I had a rice burger for the first time at the new nightmarket. I don't know about you guys but I thought it was absolutely delicious, although it may have cost me five bucks. Hands down the most brilliant thing I have ever had in terms of nightmarket food so far

Grandmaster TSE 06-23-2012 05:30 PM

had that a few years ago at the old night market lol
