Nooooo... who will be dumb enough to trade for Lu now?

TjAlmeida 01-09-2013 08:33 AM

I hate how the media in Vancouver keep on saying "Lu will be traded soon". Such a fucking distraction.

mj_39 01-09-2013 08:45 AM

Brian Burke relieved because of luongo deal? Lol says sportsnet

MR_BIGGS 01-09-2013 08:48 AM

Wow, Burke fired before season even starts.

Hondaracer 01-09-2013 08:49 AM

Maybe he got let go cause he wasn't willing to work a deal? Now the new GM sell the farm for Lu? Lol

MR_BIGGS 01-09-2013 08:50 AM

I really want to know the rationale for this. Does it have to do with the higher ups wanting Luongo, or Burke not wanting to move certain pieces, something personal? This is interesting as shit.

Mike Oxbig 01-09-2013 08:51 AM

Burke Fired

Can we stop the Luongo trade talks now? He wont be dealt.

Tim Budong 01-09-2013 08:51 AM

Presser is scheduled for 1:45PM EST

#NHL news: Source saying #Canucks Luongo still very much in the hunt to become a #Leaf despite GM Burke relieved of his duties.
Speculation rampant that Leafs ownership and Burke had a fundamental disagreement on obtaining Lu, if what Kyper says is true, maybe MLSE wanted Lu and whatever costs as Leafs in playoffs now equals dollars in their pockets and Burke was being hardline on what he was willing to give up for Lu.

Could very well be true as the timing of this is completely wack...

Do they have a next-in-line for GM? Is Dave Nonis still in TO's system?

MR_BIGGS 01-09-2013 09:02 AM

How crazy would it be if Nonis becomes acting GM. The same guy that traded for Luongo to become a Canuck trades for him to become a Leaf.

Sounds like Burke did NOT want to make Luongo deal, while many in Leafs org did. Burke a principled man.

Gotta give some respect to Burke.

Tim Budong 01-09-2013 09:12 AM

Burke NOT wanting to make Luongo deal sounds right.
I jsut read that on twitter as well

Looks like the big boys stepped in

SkinnyPupp 01-09-2013 09:14 AM

So I guess this means Gillis will get whatever he wants for Lu? If not more? :lawl:

TheKingdom2000 01-09-2013 09:15 AM

Oh man, being in Toronto is too funny sometimes.
besides getting chirped daily since the lockout ended about how the Canucks are going to suck this year, everyone at school is going nuts about Burke.

It's actually really entertaining. the culture out here is way different from Vancouver. a lot of passionate fans. I envy that.

LOL at Jay Onrait

Jay Onrait @JayOnrait
I think more Canadian sports media people would be chirping new MLSE owners for Burke firing if they didn't all work for those same owners.

Tim Budong 01-09-2013 09:27 AM

Bob Mackenzie says Nonis is in line to take over
no word if its interim or permanent

pastarocket 01-09-2013 09:30 AM

A shocking move by the Leafs to fire Burke right after the lockout ended.

-heard that even some other GMs were stunned by the news.

The only way that Luongo will be traded with his no trade clause in effect, is if the Florida GM is high on crack while Gillis makes a trade offer. :troll:

pure.life 01-09-2013 09:34 AM

Nonis now confirmed as next GM. No word whether interim or not

Deja, Deja, Deja...Vu!

MR_BIGGS 01-09-2013 09:40 AM

Ok so Burke fired, nonis hired, luongo trade involving canucks...

Looks like history could repeat itself.

RRxtar 01-09-2013 09:41 AM

i wonder how other GMs around the league feel about Burke. I wonder if some teams refuse to deal with Toronto because they dont want to deal with Burke. Maybe there was a big trade (luongo) that was being held up because burke is too hard to deal with and the other GM spoke to MLSE ownership about it
