Also I guarantee you Canucks will feel the hit financially throughout the season, merchandise sales will not be the same as they would have been if it had been a regular season

that's a pretty obvious statement, them having lost half the season of revenue

great news..... but now TSN can go back to being completely unwatchable if you want to know about other sports than hockey, cuz now they can get back to dedicating 55 minutes of it's hour long programming to hockey as opposed to the 45 they've been doing so far ?

I tried watching TSN for the first time in about 10 years during the lockout figured hey finally I can catch Football and Basketball highlights on TSN for a change, but most of their programming STILL revolved around hockey every single day even though not a single game took place.

This is Canada. That's how it works. Try finding NHL coverage in US national newspapers or anywhere on TV that isn't Versus (or whatever it's now). Most Americans thought the Sacramento Kings won the Stanley Cup.

so it looks like from the agreement the major sticking point for the PA over the last like 2 months of negotiations was the year to year variance in salary. it went from 5% to 10% and ended up at 35%. also contract lengths went from 5/7 to 7/8.

Overall, I think it is a fair deal for both sides.

Canucks' Kesler says there is no timeframe for return to NHL

Quote:

While NHL players prepare for the upcoming shortened NHL season, Vancouver Canucks forward Ryan Kesler says there is no timeframe for his return.

Kesler, 28, underwent surgery on his left shoulder in May and a left wrist operation in late June but his recovery has been slower than anticipated.

"Our goal for Ryan is that he's able to play the next 10 years, not the next two months," Kesler's agent Kurt Overhardt said. "We are working with the club closely on his recovery and we are all on the same page."

Although NHL players haven't received a paycheque since the beginning of the lockout, Kesler was still being paid his $5 million salary because he was injured prior to the end of the last collective bargaining agreement. He was also allowed to rehab with the Canucks' medical staff throughout the lockout.

In 77 games last season, Kesler tallied 22 goals and 27 assists for 49 points.

He's got to say this ... injured players collected their paychecks during the lockout in full. Would look really bad if he became healthy the day after the lockout.
