Fired/Hired
- Fired Ron Wilson March 2, 2012
- Hired Randy Carlyle | You missed some. Burke Flipped an under-performing versteeg for a 1st rounder and scrapped Kaberle for a first rounder. The Kaberle first rounder was flipped again for Anaheim's 1st round pick for Tyler Biggs while the versteeg pick was used to pick Stuart Percy who will replace Carl Gunnersson in about 2-3 years. He also strengthened the farm by trading Luca Caputi for Nicholas Deschamps and drafted Morgan Rielly, Matt Finn, and Jesse Blacker galvanizing the farm. An efficient farm is a precursor for rebuilding or development.
About the Kessel trade, you sort of need a neo-revisionist perspective. At the time, it was feasible because it was kessel for 2 first rounders, not necessarily a 2nd and 8th. It was astonishing that the leafs finished 2nd last that season. Also, Winnipeg and the 6th team were stupid in not choosing dougie hamilton. He also brought Steckel, who solved a major problem of defensive zone face-offs.
On the other hand, he did sign connolly, and traded for lombardi, but they'll be gone in a year. Komisarek in 2 unfortunately. Franson is a good trade chip, despite his follies. Quote:

IMO, leafs really lacked a #1/2 centre.
Look at all the top teams centres.
Henrik/Kesler
Datsyuk/Zetterberg
Kopitar/Richards
Bergeron/Krejci | They got Mikhail Grabovski. He is offensively competent, but has an average defensive game. His value in terms of cap/value effectiveness, is another dispute, but he is capable of 50 points. Burke also flourished MacArthur's career. |
