In the automobile sense, that's like saying you're not sold on crossover SUV's / CUV's until it can do everything a "traditional" SUV can.

Does everyone need SUV like a Hummer or Jeep where you can roam through forests seamlessly? No.
Is the additional of 4WD/AWD and raised ground clearance enough for some people? Yes.
Is the additional trunk space of a BMW X3/X5 enough for a Richmond C-Lai to store her groceries, as opposed to a sedan? Yes.

Does every tablet owner buy a tablet intended for serious gaming? No.
Do some tablet owners prefer the portability of a tablet for social media / light email and web browsing? Yes.

The current tablets that's on the market is not intended to replace your 17" gaming laptop. At least not within the next few years. It's suitable for some people, and not so suitable for some. Just like how not everyone needs a Hummer H2 or Cadillac Escalade in their garage....and prefer an entry level SUV like the X3, CR-V, Tiguan, Explorer, etc.

Anyways...

What I meant was until it can do all the stuff that "I" use a laptop for then I don't want one. I don't play hardcore games and wouldn't expect the tablet to. But if I want to download torrents and use certain programs that aren't currently available using a tablet, I don't see it being a big stretch to be able to do such a thing. Until then it's just a big screen that people will use when they want to browse the net or something else that they could have used their phone for.

that's the last i read unless they released another

The rumor (published in the Korea Times citing an unnamed source) stated Samsung was terminating LCD supply to Apple and it was because of the margins.

Samsung's official statement released the following day said the rumor was false.

More likely it's to go against the Google Nexus 10 with the 2560x1600 display (rumored). Samsung will probably put the Exynos 5 in that tablet as the Mali-604 could drive that many pixels. That would be a device comparable to the iPad 4 moreso than a Surface.

Hardware-wise, I agree completely. But it still seems to be in reaction to an actual launch rather than rumored specs of a future product.

This is what Apple use to represent retina.

Now, shouldn't apple make one for iPad mini showing that they display less than Nexus? :fullofwin:

No, because that's the definition of area.

It's arguable that you can "see more" with higher resolution devices, but the physical area is still smaller.

I would agree that the above is a stupid representation of the benefit of retina.

you can download torrents on a tablet now... the app is called atorrent I think. On android, not sure about ipad..

terkan 10-24-2012 10:02 AM

so why's the new ipad call the ipad 4 and not something like ipad 3s or something.. beside the lightning port.. is there like a physical change to it's appearance at all?

hi-revs 10-24-2012 10:04 AM

I'd rather have an ipad with the zagg folio/keyboard case over the Surface RT any day.

pages / keynote / numbers is $20 each and there's other types of apps available as well. That's not the selling point.

That is a selling point. Are pages / keynote / numbers 100% comparable with office. It's a big plus to be able to take a doc from your desktop to you tablet and back without any format issues.

I usually like to side with the PC camp, but Microsoft did officially announce that Office 2013 will be made available to Mac and Android.

I understand what you mean. But Apple is doing a fuck'd up job trying to pass this BS info to its customers.

Apple is basically using two contradicting ways to demo. The retina demo is actually rather correct assuming the image file is 2880x1800. At pixel matching level and without any scaler in between, a 1080P display can only display that fraction of the image of a resolution of 2880x1800.

I think this is officially the downfall of Apple, a previous leader in computer technology becoming a follower.

Are you fucking serious? They are saying to LOSE SOME OF THE IMAGE when going down in resolution?

Here, I made a better comparison:

http://i.imgur.com/vGKGL.jpg

The laptop images will be much sharper, but it's not like you LOSE some of the image. In fact you do actually lose some of the important part of this image on the laptops, because they are in a narrower format

Technically, Surface doesn't come with Office. It comes with a "preview version" for now, with the full version being available "later on" as a download. Office RT doesn't support macros, custom programs or add-ins. Which for me makes it useless to do "real" work. And you're not "supposed" to do commercial work on it without purchasing a license (which normal users won't, but companies will which means it's not really free for them).

Breaking news, next year, Apple releases iOSX, the OS that runs on both laptops on iPads, revolutionary!!!!! :troll:
