The Apple iPad mini Thread

10:00AM our time Apple is holding another event, which according to all the leaks should be a smaller iPad along with possible new Macbook and iMac updates.

striderblade 10-23-2012 08:21 AM

yay! for 2" smaller!

Ronin 10-23-2012 09:41 AM

If it's $299, I'm buying one. Played around with the Google Nexus and like the 7" form. It's more convenient but slightly less useful.

EmperorIS 10-23-2012 10:02 AM

No retina no talk.

c3m 10-23-2012 10:03 AM

Starts at 329CAD

iPad mini;

-7.9" screen size
-.68 pounds, half as light as a fouth-gen iPad. As light as a legal notepad.
-Black and white, the black model having the same anodization as the iPhone 5.
-7.2mm thick, 1/4 thicker than the fourth-gen iPad. That's as thin as a pencil.

Drawback: 1024 X 768 pixels. The screen is not "Retina" like the full-sized third-generation iPad. Instead, it has the same resolution as the iPad 2.

Starts at $329

WTF~ they announced iPad 4....
After only 7 months from iPad 3
Very disappointed with it
New CPU A6X, FaceTime camera, lighting connector
That's all the upgrades.

EmperorIS 10-23-2012 10:08 AM

If this means Apple is going for a 6 month cycle... I am really excited! Refresh every 6 month, Redesign every year!!!

dangonay 10-23-2012 10:16 AM

A6X is the big news. The fastest competing SoC in the world is the S4 Pro quad-core Krait with the newest Adreno 320 graphics. And the S4 Pro SoC is about 80% faster than the A5X in CPU and 10% faster in GPU.

And now Apple claims the A6X is double CPU and double GPU of the A5X. Which means Apple has, by far, the most powerful SoC in the mobile world.

Edited. Typo

ShyGuy 10-23-2012 10:21 AM

sucks for people who bought the ipad 3. They sure killed it off fast. At $329 the price point of the ipad mini isn't all so competitive...will be hard to say. What happend to the Apple that had innovative new products and never seen before designs.

you mean like the new imac?

the ipad mini isnt bad the size is the same as nexus while giving it a bigger screen the price isnt too high, generally apple products are more anyways. Curious to see how big of a hit it'll be

7.9 vs 7" and all aluminum enclosure is going to be the major differentiator an of course people pay a premium for the apple eco-system.

I'm also choked about the 7month product cycle of the full-sized iPad.

I just bought a 13" MBA and i'm contemplating exchanging it for the MBP now.

twitchyzero 10-23-2012 10:38 AM

ipad mini priced too high for no retina display
ipad 4 has a nice SoC but it came out way too soon even as a refresh

new 13" macbook and the imac is pretty nice...i hope they give the imac retina treatment next time.

Ronin 10-23-2012 11:30 AM

It's slightly expensive because the Nexus 7 is 32GB at $249 now. I expected it to be $299 but $329...$30 isn't a big deal. You do get a little bit more screen real estate than the Nexus.

No chance you were going to get a retina display for that price. It's $80 more than a Nexus 7 but just by looking at it, it looks like a better built product. The Nexus 7 is nicer than most Android cheap plastic tablets but it's still not as well built as an iPad.

If it were $249, it would've just kicked the ass of anyone else in the small tablet market. It would almost compete with the Kindle.

Expresso 10-23-2012 11:41 AM

The introduction of the iPad 4 is just to roll out the lightening connector quicker. If you have an iPad 3 there really is no incentive to upgrade.

Oh, and 7-inch tablets? You're in for a bag of hurt. Steve pretty much outright killed any potential for 7-inch iPad rumors, saying that the software just isn't right for that size ("This size is useless unless you include sandpaper so users can sand their fingers down to a quarter of their size."), and that users have no need for a pocket sized tablet when they already have a smartphone

No, but jokes aside, the specs/price is a joke

EmperorIS 10-23-2012 12:08 PM

This isn't a 7 inch tablet, This is an 8 inch tablet.

MrGoodbar 10-23-2012 12:14 PM

So what's new about this thing besides it's size?

Processor? No, it's using old A5 processor found in the iphone 4/4s generation
Display? No, it has no retna display and is using a 6:4 display ratio
GUI? No, looks like the same interface as any mobile apple product.
memory capacity? still nothing larger than 64GB
Camera? No, still the same shit as the last ipad or worse to cut cost
Bread cutting? No macbook air has been doing that years ago.

I'm not hating on this thing, but I just can't seem to understand the fascination for this thing.

EmperorIS 10-23-2012 12:16 PM

it wasn't suppose to be anything ground breaking other than to tap in the to demand for smaller and lighter tablets. One where you can just hold in one hand.

The main advantage to it is that it can still run Ipad apps at a reduced size.

For myself I still prefer 10", so if i were to get one i'd probably just get an Refurb Ipad 3 at a cheaper price considering ipad 4 is out. or go for all around cheaper nexus 7 for smaller form.

I don't get why people are pissed. There's basically no difference except a faster processor and a lightning connector.

If you bought an Apple product just before an announcement, then that's your own fault.

With the specs on the $1999 13", you might as well spend the extra $200 and get the 15" since at that price, you get an i7. Mine was $2299 with 16GB RAM.

It's more portable. That's the main thing.

It does make a difference. I find it sometimes difficult to stuff the iPad into my wife's bags, but something a couple inches smaller would probably fit much easier.

Mr.HappySilp 10-23-2012 12:55 PM

I guess is a good thing I sold my ipad3 on Monday lol.

Ronin 10-23-2012 12:56 PM

I sold my iPad 1 this morning.
