Posts continuous record-breaking quarterly profits, introduces policies to cut employees hours at retail stores. :fulloffuck: |

I've already thought of iOS as just a smaller Mac OS. The style and environment (in terms of how not only the OSes work well together but so many pieces of software are designed to work together on every platform) are already as close as current technology allows. I think it's fair to say that Apple has the most consistent user experience across desktop-laptop-phone-tablet-web TV...all the things we use to consume media and interact with the world. Everything is connected to iCloud and pretty much everything works together if you just login. I don't know how much further people think they're going to get before we have 60" desktop PCs that does triple duty as televisions and microwave ovens. Think of Corning's Day of Glass shit. That seems like something software is entirely capable of but we don't have the hardware for it. Seems like that's something Apple or Google or Microsoft is going to make in the next decade. Like if MS made a phone with Kinect tech where you could play Xbox, which is now an entirely online experience...no hardware needed...and you play entirely with hand motions and the image is projected on a wall. I don't think you can do the things that only a full sized OSX computer can currently do on a current smartphone. Like...you can't do real photoshop on a smartphone, for example, because of size limitations of phones. If you're going to merge the desktop and mobile OS, they're going to have to bring the hardware much closer than it is now. There has to be some huge advance in how we interact with a mobile device. Maybe that's what Ive is working on in "Human Interfaces". |
NDAs lifted today. Reviews are popping up and most of them are positive. Engadget found the battery to last almost 13 hours. |
Can I just walk into a Apple Store on Friday morning to pick an iPad Mini up? |

There are also rumors of them ditching x86 completely... They would be able to use a custom CPU like they started doing with the iPad. Which is why Microsoft is playing both sides with Windows RT... Develop both sides, and see which way it goes. It all depends on whether Intel can get x86 power consumption down to ARM levels, I guess |

I don't think Apple is going to merge iOS and OS X. The tablet/smartphone and desktop are two different paradigms and I think combining them would give you a "compromised" OS. Apple is taking some features and making them consistent across both, but that's not evidence of them merging the OS's. Mobile devices are far too limited to replace desktops. |

iPad Mini shipped. |
Seems like a lot of people who ordered on Friday are getting an email saying its supposed to arrive on the 6th as opposed to the 2nd. |
Yep, mine says 6th. I'm guessing the hurricane delayed shipment? That sucks...was hoping to play with it on the weekend. |
How many layers of first world problems are we in complaining about iPad mini delays? 1. My iPad is too big and my iPhone is too small! 2. I had to pay $329 for my iPad mini instead of $299! 3. A hurricane that has killed like 50 people, destroyed thousands of homes and caused $20B in damage across the East coast has delayed the delivery of my iPad until MONDAY! ...and it might not even be delayed. Someone on Twitter said Apple told them it will probably still be here tomorrow but they put the 6th to be safe. Better to underpromise and overdeliver? |
Bought the ipad 1 when it was released and still using it. Got a Playbook from work which is a paperweight. Was looking into the iPad mini, but it looks like a downsized ipad2. I think I'll wait for the ipad 4. |

iPad mini with retina would be killer Posted via RS Mobile |
Wouldn't hesitate to buy an iPad mini with retina. It'll happen. And I'll buy it. |
I would assume 6months from now there will be an ipad mini with retina display that I will snatch up...just wondering why is apple going the way of new ipads every 6months or so? Is it to try and keep up with competition and do you think they will do this with iphones as well? Just wondering since the turn over for mobile phones is greater then tablets I would say...for instance android. |
if anyone wants I can reserve them one at Futureshop |
They're setting up ropes for a queue for tomorrow at the Oakridge Apple store. |
Shipping updated. Looks like mine is currently in Ontario. |
Mount Hope? So is mine. |
Yep, Mount Hope. Not sure what that means for delivery. It certainly seems like Monday would be more likely unless they plan on overnighting everything...which is what they did with the iPhone 5 pre-orders, I believe. EDIT: Left Mount Hope an hour ago. |
