Clarkson was dumb for leaving the bench, but I really can't blame him for going out there. He didn't really fight but for nearly 3 minutes of that line brawl he did hold Scott back from engaging the small Leafs. If Scott had gotten free, he could have been a real danger to Kessel or other Leafs.

Kessel's slashes weren't that bad as he went for Scott's shins. He at least faced off with someone in his weight class immediately after that and did rather well.
Can't wait for the rematch when the Leafs ice their tough guys.

Clearly an accidental stick swing, nonetheless a dumb play. I don't think that it's suspendable though. Knowing Shanahan's judgement though, 4 regular season games would make sense. :okay:

At the end of the day, you are responsible for your stick. He made a reckless play which directly resulted in the opponents jaw breaking.

This is the easiest suspension Shannahan is going to have all season. I can't fathom how you think it's not a suspend-able incident. You can't just look at it and say not a suspension. You have to apply the rules that govern the league. Regardless of how abstract and subjective they are.

If an investigation is requested by a Club or by the League on its own initiative, it must be initiated within twenty-four (24) hours following the completion of the game in which the incident occurred.

28.2 Pre-Season and Exhibition Games - Whenever suspensions are imposed as a result of infractions occurring during pre-season and exhibition games, the Commissioner shall exercise his discretion in scheduling the suspensions to ensure that no team shall be short more players in any regular League game than it would have been had the infractions occurred in regular League games.
