The intent of the act means nothing when compared to the extent of the player's injury??? What a joke!

Leafs' Kessel suspended for rest of pre-season

Kassian's stick swing WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT. He intentionally swung it. He didn't intentionally hit him in the face, but he DEFINITELY wanted to hit him in the upper body with his stick.

I have no problem with Kessel's ruling compared to Kassian's. If Kessel broke Scott's leg, then obviously it would be a different story.

who's going to the preseason game thurs night vs the NY Rangers? got section 115/row 5. pretty decent view.

Agree with Kassian, but not Kessel.

I hear Eager and Big Mac wants to go after our guys, they better get ready and start swinging sticks to defend themselves.

It also didn't help when the refs were holding Scott back and Kessel skates up to him and spears him. What kind of bitch does that? Your are pretty much asking for your face to be caved in.

LUUUUUUUU 09-24-2013 03:42 PM

it is a joke. Kessel using his stick as a weapon takes repeated swings (1st swing is ok, 2nd and 3rd are just stupid) at another player while they are being held by refs/players gets him no real suspension. While kassian's accidental swing to the jaw gets him the entire pre season + 5 regular season games?

lol and Kessel's a repeat offender

AzNightmare 09-24-2013 04:23 PM

Not enough focus on the intent of cause.
The outcome's the other thing that really gets looked at.

Oh yeah, and whether you're a star player or not.

Glad to see Buffalo was punished for their bush league crap.

Elliot Friedman makes this point:

Here's why I have no problem with the three-game exhibition suspension: my opinion on this stuff changed after Todd Bertuzzi/Steve Moore. Moore skated away, turtled and was still badly injured. John Scott is a powerful guy. If he connects -- even without all of his force -- Kessel could get hurt. Imagine, if that happened, the fallout we'd be seeing. The damage to Kessel and the sport is not worth it. If the Sabres want to rough up Kessel, do it with punishing checks or hard play. Fighters should not be targeting non-fighters.

Could you imagine John Scoot going after the Sedins?

They would literally die. Remember what Daniel did when a 5'9- Brad Marchand was treating his face like a speed bag...absolutely nothing. So yes, John Scott would break their necks.

After watching JJ vs Gustavsson, i think sedins or swedes in general are not that soft at all. They got the viking genes.

Scott is such a useless goon, but Kessel is such a weaselly little bitch, this wasn't his first incident swinging his stick and running away, no wonder so many of the guys harass him all the time. IMO he should have gotten 2 or 3 regular season games, the first slash, ok maybe give him a pass, but the 2nd and 3rd one and the spear, just ridiculous, no excuse.
