The spaghetti logo was, and still is, the best.....

and if the canucks choose the skate logo for the winter classic along with Bure's retirement, even moreso fitting

Mike Oxbig 07-28-2013 08:36 PM

Wow, if only that was true.

That logo itself is pretty much called the Bure logo.

My guess is that the team will wear the Millionaires' jerseys. The Heritage Classic's logo's colour scheme is a good match with the Millionaires' jersey color:

I think it almost has to be some variation of the Millionaires jersey doesn't it? The Vancouver Millionaires beat the Ottawa Senators back in 1915 so it would only make sense imo.

Sentinel 07-28-2013 09:39 PM

A lot of people wants the Canucks to wear the skate jersey for the heritage classic. But most teams who participated in the past wore the team's first/oldest jersey or the city's first jersey. The skate jersey is neither... Would make sense if they wear the millionaires.

On the topic of Bure's number going to the rafters. It is a long way from now, but what about doing it on April 1st against the Rangers? Linden and Naslund had their nights in Dec, but April 1st we play the NYR... would be pretty epic to wear the skate jersey that night and raise the #10 banner up that same night.

tmc22 07-28-2013 09:55 PM

My bet is that they'll retire it against the panthers on nov 19, where bure played the second half of his career. And I read somewhere that they usually retire numbers in games that don't necessarily draw a big crowd, so the panthers make even more sense.

jeedee 07-29-2013 05:36 AM

For the heritage classic, I think there will a completely different/new jersey created.

Its all about the $$$. New jerseys=people buying it

quasi 07-29-2013 05:55 AM

I can't see them retiring Bure at the classic, they would miss out on hanging the banner which is the main part of ceremony.

Yeah it makes no sense at all actually. Florida makes the most sense to me

Yea, would be pretty silly to raise it temporarily at BC Place

That's my smart money bet too.

Things working against it are the fact its a mid-week game so no national TV/HNIC coverage. Mind you Linden was retired on a weekday also, Naslund was retired on a Saturday though.

I don't think the Rangers game is really an option; Bure played a couple years there but was at the tail end of his career and didn't make a real huge splash all things considered. There's the significance of the 94 run which may have some importance, or maybe not much.

The Rangers game is not an option because league rules prevents Jersey retirements or special ceremonies that late into the year, can't remember the exact date that is in the league rules, but Bure said himself it can't be the Rangers game because of league rules on that.

Bure's jersey retirement - how about Thursday, October 10 against the Sharks?

Any particular that date?

Like tmc22 said; they usually retire numbers in games that don't necessarily draw a big crowd.

Linden jersey retirement - December 17, 2008 vs Oilers
Naslund jersey retirement - December 11, 2010 vs Lightning

Although for the Nassy retirement I believe they purposely picked that game so Ohlund would be there.

Maybe Crosby's 8.7M caphit for the next 128345098 seasons is also just a coincidence? ;)
