The downie trade is Varly related.

Here's a speculation on what when down:

Downie is banging Varly's wife/girlfriend
Varly catches her at Downie's place and gives her a good slap and drags her out of there
Downie gets punched by Varly on the way out
Varly throws wife/girlfriend into car and drives off against her will
Next day, Downie is traded to the first random team that accepts a trade with no explanation

This explains the 2nd degree kidnapping and 3rd degree assault, and also the mysterious emergency trade out. Kind of like the middle of the night Phaneuf trade to TOR when he got busted having an affair with Conroy's wife.

If CBC doesn't show Bure's retirement ceremony on TV, I should send an e-mail to that "I-Desk" during the intermission to tell them to own up to their mistakes.

-bunch of idiots on the CBC panel of "analysts." Torts is right, those idiots like Glenn Healy do not know much about hockey, let alone Canucks hockey.

Vancouver Sun has clarified my question

Quote:

ANCOUVER - The Vancouver Canucks announced in a news release Friday that Pavel Bure’s number will be retired on Saturday, Nov. 2 when the Canucks host the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Bure’s number 10 will become only the fourth retired number in franchise history joining Stan Smyl’s number 12, Trevor Linden’s number 16 and Markus Naslund’s number 19, according to the release.

The ceremony will air on CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada beginning at 4 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST).

The club first announced plans to honour Bure by retiring his number during the annual ‘Canucks Summer Summit’ season ticket holder event July 23, 2013.

Bure was a member of the Canucks from 1991-92 to 1997-98, playing his first NHL game on November 5, 1991 against Winnipeg, according to the release.

While with the organization, Bure tallied 478 points (254-224-478) in 428 games played. He continues to hold the franchise record for most points scored by a rookie with 60 (34-26-60) in 65 games played in 1991.92 as well as for most career shorthanded goals (24). The Moscow, Russia native also ranks in the top five in franchise history in game-winning goals (32), goals (254) and hat tricks (9).

It's also a TML game. They never screw those ones up as they're the only Canadian team that matters, right?

^well duh

Gumby 11-01-2013 10:25 AM

Hmm, in that Vancouver Sun article, if they're going to talk about franchise records, why did they not mention his two 60-goal seasons?

Finally, didn't want to get Alfie'd. I'm guessing it's structured something like:

7.5, 7.5, 7, 6

or

8, 8, 7, 5.

7m cap hit in any case.

I'm surprised the term's so short.

The twins seemed adamant that this be the last deal they ink, but I don't see them retiring at 37.

murd0c 11-01-2013 10:54 AM

4yrs is a good time frame especially at that age I can't see them wanting to get less. It's hard to believe they will be that old in 4yrs!!

Pretty good deal for both sides, I like it. Just glad we're not stuck with them for 5+ years

Not really......

Ben Kuzma @benkuzma
Canucks wanted three-year extensions, the Sedins wanted five. The compromise? Four years at $7 million US annually. A win-win settlement.

Interesting. The twins sounded as though they'd want a six or seven year deal when they noted they thought they'd be healthy and productive through their late thirties.
