The landscape is changing to athlete-centered coaching, the old-brand of coaching is not as effective anymore, and there's more and more young guys coming in and doing okay.

Torts had godly goal-tending, the best line in the league, and a solid back-end when he won his ring, so no surprise there.

I understand what you're saying... but it also opens another point.
Canucks didn't have godly goaltending, nor the best line in the league, so it's no wonder Torts didn't have the pieces to utilize.

I simply don't like putting the blame on just one guy when it was a combination of reasons for the failed season.

I never said he gets no credit, and I don't know why you're always so caught up with assuming I'm putting all the blame on Torts. You've said that MULTIPLE times and I've made more than enough responses to you. Despite the team sucking dick, he never put any conscious effort into listening to player opinions and his arrogant, explosive, condescending attitude prevented him from adapting his style of play to his personnel.

My point about Torts was he had all the personnel available, and he implemented a system that worked. They played great hockey starting at the beginning of the season so it wasn't surprise they went to the SCF, and won.

He's a coach that brought us to the basement, to the lottery. I don't think its a coincidence almost every single player had their career worst numbers. Even if we switched to up-tempo half way through the season, the team was done and sick of his shit. No player ever is gonna say the coach sucked at the exit interview, you just don't do that.

More below.

Regardless of anything that happened throughout the season, he didn't do his job as the coach, he didn't prepare or put his players in a position to win. Period. There's no debating that based on what has leaked in the media.

Almost every year there's teams that are a surprise that do well who don't have the "pieces" aka considered a shit team, and that's because of the players have bought into the system, and have trust in each other. The importance of a proper coaching philosophy right there.

If anything its making Torts look bad, because it shows he can't do shit with a relatively "good" team. See where NYR is, and see where we ended up.

I wonder how the Canucks would've done if the Calgary incident never happened...the Canucks were actually playing really well BEFORE it

...meh they'd probably still play their way to the bottom :fuckthatshit:

Their record in December was decent against non playoff teams.

Under AV - they could whoop playoff teams and get whooped by the bottom of the barrel

Under Torts - whoop the bottom of the barrel but get rocked by playoff teams

The main argument right now is that Torts refused to adapt to the players he was given. As Benning said in his press conference, this team was built more for speed and attacking, and this was something Torts did not want to do. Instead, he insisted that they play a more defensive game. Instead of wearing out the other team, he wore out his own team.

My assumption is that Linden talked to Torts regarding the playing style, and he stood firm on his style. The rest is history.

MSL!

EuterVanWasser 05-25-2014 07:26 PM

Damn, Montreal had owned the first 5 minutes of OT. One shift in their own end and MSL snipes the game winner.

I understand they eliminated "your" Bruins but it's Canada first for me, even if that means cheering for the Habs.

Team loyalty > country 'loyalty'

Never understood people that simply jump on a team's bandwagon just because they're a Canadian team

It makes more sense than jumping on their bandwagon for... whatever other reason...

It's just following a team, what's wrong with that?

AzNightmare 05-26-2014 06:53 AM

I've been a LA fan this whole playoffs :troll:
Such a fun roller coaster of emotions!
I only watch their elimination games though. :notbad:

Hondaracer 05-26-2014 08:11 AM

Personally i tend to like players on a team and root for them to succeed moreso than the team as a whole
