You've said that MULTIPLE times and I've made more than enough responses to you. Despite the team sucking dick, he never put any conscious effort into listening to player opinions and his arrogant, explosive, condescending attitude prevented him from adapting his style of play to his personnel.
My point about Torts was he had all the personnel available, and he implemented a system that worked. They played great hockey starting at the beginning of the season so it wasn't surprise they went to the SCF, and won.
He's a coach that brought us to the basement, to the lottery. I don't think its a coincidence almost every single player had their career worst numbers. Even if we switched to up-tempo half way through the season, the team was done and sick of his shit. No player ever is gonna say the coach sucked at the exit interview, you just don't do that.

I understand what you're saying... but it also opens another point.
Canucks didn't have godly goaltending, nor the best line in the league, so it's no wonder Torts didn't have the pieces to utilize.
I simply don't like putting the blame on just one guy when it was a combination of reasons for the failed season. | Regardless of anything that happened throughout the season, he didn't do his job as the coach, he didn't prepare or put his players in a position to win. Period. There's no debating that based on what has leaked in the media.
Almost every year there's teams that are a surprise that do well who don't have the "pieces" aka considered a shit team, and that's because of the players have bought into the system, and have trust in each other. The importance of a proper coaching philosophy right there.
If anything its making Torts look bad, because it shows he can't do shit with a relatively "good" team. See where NYR is, and see where we ended up. |
