Report: Canucks to name Benning GM this week
Mike Halford May 20, 2014, 10:52 AM EDT

Vancouver’s new general manager search will reportedly come to an end this week.

Boston assistant GM Jim Benning will be named as the Canucks’ new man in charge, according to TSN’s Darren Dreger. The news comes more than six weeks after the club dismissed Mike Gillis as GM and hired franchise legend Trevor Linden as team president.

The Benning hire makes sense on a number of fronts. One, he and Linden spent five years playing together in Vancouver and the move would continue in the theme of bringing ex-Canucks into the managerial fold. Two, Benning has the scouting experience and acumen Linden is reportedly seeking in a new GM — prior to joining the Bruins, he had great success as the head of amateur scouting in Buffalo, selecting the likes of Ryan Miller, Jason Pominville, Derek Roy, Paul Gaustad, Daniel Paille and Dennis Wideman.

Per the Bruins website, Benning has assisted GM Peter Chiarelli in a number of areas since taking the post in 2007, advising on player evaluation, trades and free agent signings.

Assuming Benning is released in time for the draft, he’ll have plenty of work to do. Vancouver has almost all of its picks this year, including the sixth overall selection.

I think I would be most excited to hear Delorme and his scouting staff have all been fired.

Props to Linden for hiring Benning. He's a man of action.

Our team's ability to draft good prospects is going to improve dramatically with GM Benning. -can't wait until he cleans house to get rid of Delorme and our weaksauce scouts.

Let the Canucks rebuild begin! Fuck Gillis's "reset". Linden is showing how it's done.

So with the hiring of Benning is it official the Canucks are moving towards the "Boston model"?

Edler for Loui Eriksson? Eriksson and Sedins are money :hat:

How is this combo Boston model?

Signed a D Man....

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks President, Hockey Operations Trevor Linden announced today that the Canucks have signed defenceman Anton Cederholm.

Cederholm, 19, spent the 2013.14 season with the Portland Winterhawks (WHL), collecting 16 points (4-12-16) and 95 penalty minutes in 71 regular season games. He added five points (2-3-5) and 16 penalty minutes in 21 playoff games, helping Portland advance to the WHL Championship.

The Helsingborg, Sweden native has represented his country on multiple occasions, including the IIHF World Junior U18 Tournament (2011.12 and 2012.13) and U17 Tournament (2010.11 and 2011.12).

The 6’2”, 204-pound defenceman was originally drafted by Vancouver 145th overall in the fifth round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

I meant Sedins + Eriksson line being a "Boston" line.
Good linemate, but another target for a punching bag come playoff time.

He has less PIM than the Sedins...

a potato could've done better than Delorme at the draft (and probably cheaper too)

We think the Vancouver Canucks may have a scouting problem(!!!!) | CanucksArmy
