Don't get me wrong, I'm still waiting for Kassian to go beast but I'm glad we got rid of such a difficult player in CoHo.

Cody just a couple days ago was saying he expects to have a new deal done pretty soon and loves the team and city and can't wait get the deal signed.

Take this for whats it worth, but having some knowledge of some of the stuff that happened here, it really wasn't Cody, it was AV that made that relationship toxic and Gillis backed into a corner having to back his coach at the time. Honestly if my "boss" accused me of lying and faking injuries when it was proven I wasn't and harassed me weekly, I wouldn't be happy either. Cody hasn't been difficult or had any issues at all being in Buffalo, even when Ruff was hard on him for a 2 week stretch. You can dig up the posts from when the trade was made, but I was telling everyone Zack has maturity issues, is unfocused and lazy at times, after watching him very closely in Rochester and Buffalo and talking to a few guys, and this pretty much happened last season when he got benched and sent to the AHL for being unfocused and spending too much time at the Roxy and being a general douchebag. I'm rooting for Zack to succeed here but honestly he's more a candidate for off ice issues than Cody.

Cody's been training pretty intense all off season with James Neal and Stamkos at Gary Roberts fitness center, so he'll be ready, he's letting Rich Winter deal with all the contract stuff. There actually remains a number of good young RFAs unsigned, in pretty much all these cases, its not the because the players are being difficult, its just the process between the agents and the GMs, there is no rush as they are restricted, so its really not uncommon for RFA's especially young talented ones to go this far into summer without a deal yet as the team and the agent try to get the best deal before training camp.

Aside from Cody, Pietrangelo, Stephan, Boedker, Kadri and Johansson remain unsigned. Henrique was just resigned a few days ago, and Tanev not too long ago.

Yup, they streamed it live on Sportsnet in the past.

Hopefully you'll be able to catch the action on Sportsnet or online and won't be at camp ;)

In regards to the trade, to me it was the timing more than anything... I would've preferred for him to be traded at the end of the season....

I hope Kassian can mesh with the Sedins and stay on the top line.

Kassian showed he could play with the Sedins last season. Then AV went potato mode and demoted him after his hot start :fulloffuck:

Torts has said he'd prefer to re-unite Burrows and Kesler, so Kassian SHOULD have every opportunity to play with the Twins/stick on the 1st line.

punkwax 09-02-2013 01:52 PM

I hope Kassian has put in some serious work during the offseason and shows Torts he can make an impact both offensively and defensively.

Mike Oxbig 09-02-2013 02:00 PM

Cant expect much from kassian to have impact on both offensively and defensively... talk about being spoiled fans.

Fans would be happy if he can just plot in goals and stand in front of the net.

GrapeDrink 09-02-2013 02:00 PM

corey crawford gets 6x6, what a terrrrrrrrrrrrible deal. Wins a cup on a superstacked Chi team where Emery went 17-1. I'm shocked Chi would do this especially given the fact just prior to this season Crawford was literally 1 of the worst starting goaltenders in the league with a .903 sp and no previous track record of being a dominate goaltender.

Mike Oxbig 09-02-2013 02:03 PM

Terrible deal as of today or terrible deal in the future when the caps rises up again? Seems like both players and management knows that the cap will go up again eventually.

MR_BIGGS 09-02-2013 02:04 PM

I have Kassian in my keeper pool, so I'm hoping he gets off to a great start so I can package him in a deal for a dman.

The Crawford deal is a bit rich, but regardless of being stacked or not, he is a Stanley Cup winning goalie. One that the Hawks have secured long term.

This will only work if Kassian puts in Burrows' type of effort night-in-night-out; and for what Burrows brings to the table, it's quite a tall order.

Night in, night out, every shift he has to:
*forecheck for the twins (because the twins aren't going to do it)
*grind the puck out of corners to buy offensive possession on dump-in/broken plays
*upon establishing offensive possession, goalie screen and take all the defensive abuse in front of the net, and keep at it.
*bang in rebounds in roughest dirty areas where penalties suddenly become a grey area of the game (in front of the net)
*if there's nothing going on, aggro defenders to buy Henrik perimeter space and Daniel some small areas to cut in and out.

Having said that, it's interesting that playing with world class players doesn't actually make life easier, it makes it harder. I have no doubt Kassian has the ability to do all those, but like 7seven says: it's not really a question of skill, but more of a question of ethic.

You don't want to see him playing like this only on teams like Colorado, or Edmonton, etc. We want to see him playing like this even on bigger, better, more punishing teams.

its terrible in the sense hes really getting paid based on 1 historically amazing season on a super stacked team where Ray Emery posted near identical numbers and went 17-1. I don't watch a whole lot of Chicago games so I won't pretend to be an expert but it would appear like hes a product of the team being stacked as hell than him being a superbly amazing goalie.

Corey Crawford ~ Chris Osgood

Crawford looked super shaky in that series against Boston

if i were Crawford id be jumping for fucking joy right now of course

Mike Oxbig 09-02-2013 04:00 PM

Look how many cups osgood won for the red wings ;)

Does anyone know if team canada will be wearing some new uniform at the Olympics?
