Yeah... It's kind of mind boggling how Kessel can compete as a professional athlete with that body type. Or does he only have a day head?

I'm guessing you didn't watch the 2006 Olympics. Team Canada invited a bunch of powerforwards/big guys [Bertuzzi, Rob Blake, Adam Foote just to name a few] and we placed 7th in the entire tournament.

Those big guys are more suited for NHL-sized rinks, not international.

Simply put; speed kills and we'll need fast guys for Sochi and the international ice. Not big and slow guys that try to go for the big hit, miss, and go out of position.

Exactly!

Quote:

"The biggest lesson is foot speed, for all players. You have to be able to skate and you have to be able to move the puck," Oilers president of hockey operations Kevin Lowe said. "The team will be made up of players who can skate, think and move the puck. There could be a number of changes form the gold medal team in Vancouver."

After 908 NHL games:
Now recognizes Olympic gold hero from 2006 that his career is coming to an end.
- Mentally, I feel that there will be no more, says Mattias Ohlund, 36, to kuriren.nu .
Ohlund has not played a single match in over two years.
A knee injury has stopped him.
However, he is constantly aiming for a comeback in the NHL, where he played eleven seasons for Vancouver and the last five years, belonged to Tampa Bay.
"I have to be realistic"
Now however recognize the hill veteran that career is probably over.
- In a perfect world, I had played hockey for a few years. But I still fills 37 years in a few weeks, says Mattias Ohlund to kuriren.nu.
- I've had a pretty long career and I'm happy with. I do not feel at all bad mentally in any way. But I have not played in over two years. I have to be realistic and realize that the conditions to play again become smaller and smaller, he continues.
"The conditions are small"
Ohlund has done four Olympics for Tre Kronor, 2006 in Turin, it was gold, and he has done over 900 games in the NHL.
The last two seasons have been devoted to rehabilitation.
- Even if my knees would be fine when I wake up in the morning so the prospects of getting back very little. To come back when you are my age are probably not the easiest thing, he says.

More than two years have passed since Mattias Ohlund played a hockey game later. The nearly 37-year-old Tampa Bay-slope has now largely given up on a future career.

- Mentally, I feel that there will be no more, he says to Norrbotten's Courier.

Ohlund has knäskadad in almost 2.5 years and is not yet färdigrehabiliterad.

- Even if my knees would be fine when I wake up in the morning so the prospects of getting back very little. To come back when you are my age are probably not the easiest.

He will, however, be in place when the Tampa Bay Lightning will start their pre-season on September 10.

- I feel no need to make a final decision.

considering all the procedures done on his knees....he'd be lucky to even be able to walk around normally pain free... let alone doing any strenuous physical activity..

he's like 37? and hasn't played a game in two seasons

hope he gets into the ring of honor at least

Hondaracer 08-29-2013 01:55 PM

I'd just retire if I was him some of the stories of guys in the NFL that went through knee problems are terrible
