I purposely pick corolla colors. Those are the best colors. I might wrap it Champaign beige next and slap corolla LE sticker on the back.

You should do this colour next, with the red seats it will look like an autopsy of the Grinch with the top down:

red kryptonite 05-17-2025 11:47 PM

if i ever buy a mini, i will wrap it that color with a green roof/mirrors and a license plate that reads BLO BAO

68style 05-18-2025 06:20 AM

I saw a 4 door Cooper S parked on the street in Seattle last night in this colour... it was at least interesting I guess:

i test drove the a new cooper JCW yesterday, what a riot. drove much better than the S i had for a loner. darty little fwd with torque steer and wheel hop struggling to put the "power" down, brings me back to the 90s honda days.

JDMDreams 05-18-2025 10:04 AM

Are you sure. Aren't they all giant tall SUVs now. Just park it next to a old one and it's like the size of a x5.

red kryptonite 05-18-2025 10:56 AM

Nah. They’re still smaller than a golf or a rolla hatch.
In my short experience I think R chassis handles and looks the best but those N14 I’m little scared of.

noclue 05-18-2025 12:10 PM

Red kryptonite got me going down the rabbit hole of new hot hatches for sale.
1. mini jcw $56k
2. civic type r $56k (if you can get at msrp)
3. GR rolla premium $62k!! Wow they went up in price
4. VW golf r black edition akrapovic exhaust $60k

Feel like golf r and type r is the best value

bcrdukes 05-18-2025 12:30 PM

Outside of MSRP, the other thing to consider is reliability/cost of ownership. But if you're just leasing and dumping it after, then all is well. The GR Corolla is a weak contender in this category. I often wonder why it even exists.

AstulzerRZD 05-18-2025 01:44 PM

Toyota execs: “Unleash the nerds, give them real budget, let’s make a rally monster for the street - screw the bean counters!”

Engineers: “Say less.” builds triple-diff AWD, forged internals, 3 cylinder and send it to rally.

Car enthusiasts: “Wait, this is too hardcore. Why isn’t it cheaper? Why isn’t it more daily-able? Why is it so weird? Why did you go all-in?”

bcrdukes 05-18-2025 02:41 PM

Yeah, I don't get the GR Corolla. They went from an archetypal boring (yet reliable) econobox to full-retard mode and expected people to get hot and heavy over it. No, Toyota. That's not how it works.

noclue 05-18-2025 02:54 PM

I thought GR corolla started at $44k for the base model when it first came out.

If the rumour of a GR MR2 coming next year is true, I’ll be looking forward to that!

trollface 05-18-2025 05:24 PM

Except that rumoured new GR has more power than the GR Supra and AWD complication… so it’s going to be way more $ than even the current Supra… I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s north of $80k

the mini is the worst value $ for hp, handling, style (subjective), practicality, reliability :suspicious: but i still want one.
its such a fun not so serious running errands cars.

68style 05-18-2025 09:54 PM

Isn’t the list rmismatched? The GTI is equivalent to the Cooper not the R

Way cheaper and better car

Idgi tbh, it worked for the Type R. Well the Type R is a very good balance of dailyable, do-everything-able, and trackable.

I'm not up to date on your buying habits or if lease like others said, but if you're not opposed to used and all you care about is driving dynamics (over crazy boy racer looks), then just guy a FK8 instead of the FL5. Better suspension anyway. Find one that's stock, because stock is best. Why get coil overs and ruin your very expensive adapative dampers that other people dream they could have? Amd make sure it has stock wheels. Honda did some crazy magical engineering - literally no torque steer when everything is stock. My biggest complaint about this car is wind noise - it drives me nuts that my E36 had better road noise measures than this. But with that being said, I remember when the 10th gen civic first came out and RZD was talking about all the wind noise with the design of the civic x in general.

Alteratively, if leasing is what you would like, then get the Acura Integra Type S DE5. These are likely a bit cheaper than the FL5 CTR, the adaptive dampning system (module) is better, there's a bit more refinement (all the other cars except for GRC has more refinement than these jap junk) with more insulation, leather seats, and HEATED SEATS.

Type R is a beautiful evolution - reusing the dual axis strut Ford/GM invented and it uses an updated version of a 10 year old engine.

GR threw everything that existed and what they knew about hot hatches out the window. We're lucky they brought it to production in the Yaris and to North America in the Corolla.

Having been in discussions like this, it reeks of Akio said we should do it and they probably lose money on each one.

Badhobz 05-19-2025 07:07 AM

But it sucks !!! Gr ratrolla is slow and the interior is a pile of Pooh for 60k. It’s also fragile and the awd systems overheats and fails under track use. What’s the bloody point ?!?!?

How can it be such a crappy product. Akio should be ashamed this is Toyotas first independent performance vehicle in North America since the mk4 supra died. Gr 86 and Gr supra are all combination jobs.

I sold my FRS for 14k. Bought it in 2013 for 28k out the door. Not too bad when it comes to deprecation, drove it like I stole it and never had anything go wrong during my ownership.

It’s the STI/Alfa effect:
Sometimes you just want something a little unhinged and quirky.

The GR Corolla isn’t about polish - it’s about chaos, dumb fun, and sending it even when it’s cold and sideways outside.

Type R or Golf Ris the sensible choice.
GR Corolla is the one you take out when the weather’s crap and you want to do something stupid.

Not every great car makes sense. Some just make memories.

bcrdukes 05-19-2025 09:23 AM

You're not wrong, and I don't disagree, but there are better ways to make memories for $60K. A dumb, fun car should not cost that much.
